By this point in the fall, you've probably started watching, or at least rewatching, the film Gilmore Girls. Regardless of whether this month was the show's 25th anniversary or not Gilmore GirlsThe themed Advent calendar is currently on the rise on Amazon – that is The Fall show. And perhaps, as you queue up the next episode in your leisurely rush, you find yourself longing for the idyllic, idyllic utopia of Stars Hollow, Connecticut.
Although we can't turn fiction into reality, we can give you a few ideas on how to add fiction Gilmore Girls-inspired whimsy for your home that makes that fantasy a little more real. Maybe the Dragonfly Inn was already on your living room vision board, or seeing Luke's Diner made you jealous. Either way, let the renovation begin in the fall.
A kitchen like Luke's Diner
According to Rachel Kamerman, the set designer for seasons four through six of the series, she is one of the key characters in all seasons Gilmore Girls The set should ensure that everything looks as purchased. “Imperfection is perfection,” says Kamerman. “You don't want anything to be too perfect and too fancy. I think everything there in Stars Hollow looks like it's acquired.” Nothing can be from the same place – you have to combine them. This quality is particularly evident in the chairs in Luke's diner. Mix and match a variety of chair styles, silhouettes and colors for your kitchen. This Knoll chair from Design Within Reach looks particularly nostalgic. You can't forget the mugs – this is a coffee purist household, so make sure you display them all on a display shelf.
A living room inspired by the Dragonfly Inn
Set designer Rachel Kamerman tells ELLE Decor that much of Dragonfly Inn was inspired by Lorelai and Sookie's indecision in the design. This means that everything looks visually layered and lots of patterns and colors come together to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Don't just settle on one look or color palette for your living room furniture. GreenRow in particular offers playful upholstery pieces, as does Serena & Lily. For the finishing touch, add this deep-toned mulberry wallpaper from Graham & Brown to peek through your gallery of art and decorative plates.
A cave as cozy as Lorelai and Rory's house
Bring the irreverence and whimsicality of Rory and Lorelai into your study or bedroom and create a space you'll always want to relax in. For your sofa, opt for something slipcovered and in a soft color, like this Amari slipcover sofa from Wayfair. Make sure to throw in some embroidered and printed accent pillows and a patterned blanket. For even more structure and comfort, place one of GreenRow's custom sofa cushions on the seat (we're particularly fond of this buttery yellow checked fabric). Incorporate some vintage or vintage-inspired wood furniture pieces—like this curved Crate & Barrel dining chair and Perigold desk—along with some warm gold lighting and you've got a perfectly inviting space.
