Bathrooms are evolving into more than just functional spaces. They become safe havens for well-being, self-development and environmentally conscious living. Interior designers predict that 2025 will revolutionize bathrooms with innovative design and eco-friendly solutions. “The trends we see and are excited about include sustainable materials, mixed metals, bold and unique tile patterns, color blocking and multifunctional spaces,” says Sarah Snouffer, founder and principal architect of Washington, D.C.-based Third Street Architecture.
“We’re also seeing that customers are finding it increasingly easier to incorporate their personality into their bathroom design and focus less on resale value,” she adds. “This shift makes it possible to highlight the latest trends while maintaining a timeless quality because design decisions are deeply personal and based on customers' real desires.” Here are the bathroom trends that designers say will define 2025.

Choosing the right colors will help set the tone of your bathroom and create a calming and inviting atmosphere. Gone are the days of sterile, all-white bathrooms as designers have abandoned them in favor of bold earth tones. “In 2025, look for many bathrooms to have earthy, neutral color palettes—tones like beige, terracotta and soft greens,” says Rotem Eylor, CEO and founder of Republic Floor.
Earthy, neutral beige and taupe tones provide elegance and warmth. They are timeless and versatile and create a cozy atmosphere when combined with natural wood, stone or metal. While there are still shades of green in the mix for 2025, there is a shift towards softer tones of sage and olive, away from the bold, leafy hunter greens. These color combinations create a grounded spa atmosphere and make bathrooms a calming retreat. For those who have reservations about more pigmented hues, furniture, wallpaper and tiles are a great place to balance bold pops of color.
Textures and patterned floor tiles
According to Snouffer, these earthy, neutral tones are paired with deeper, bolder tile colors. “For added texture, this is often paired with marble-look checkered floor tiles,” she explains. “Tile patterns place an emphasis on creativity in layout – using simple subway tiles in more innovative ways to create unique, standout designs.”
“The tile patterns are also becoming bolder,” says Jenny Marrs, co-star of HGTV’s “Fixer to Fabulous” and national designer for Re-Bath. “One trend is to use large format tiles on walls and floors in creative layouts such as herringbone or basket weave, especially in neutral tones.”
Flute, 3D or hand-painted tile designs are also making a comeback. This trendy approach to tiling invites you to experiment. Expect oversized tiles and reduced grout lines because bathroom lovers prefer an understated, chic look that's easy to clean.
Mixed metal surfaces

Many designers prefer mixed metal combinations instead of matching finishes. Snouffer says the mixed metal trend is becoming increasingly popular because of its versatility. “It allows flexibility to coordinate with other finishes, decorations and future updates. Plumbing fixtures are often kept in timeless finishes such as chrome or nickel, while more “trendy” metals are used for hardware, lights and mirrors. The mixed metal approach creates a curated yet relaxed atmosphere and offers a sophisticated, less rigid aesthetic,” she explains.
“Copper is coming back and pairs beautifully with trendy neutrals,” says Amber Shay, national vice president of design centers at Meritage. “I think some of the more intricate layered metal finishes are more flexible.” Alternatively: Matte black, brushed gold and satin nickel finishes add a modern, masculine touch. They fit well with many design styles by creating a contrast with natural tones often expressed in bathroom textiles such as shower curtains, towels and doormats.
Maximalist designs
As bathrooms become canvases for self-expression, maximalism takes center stage in 2025. “Maximalist designs are making a comeback,” says Eylor. “The opulent textures [paired] with timeless floor coverings [make] for a bold yet balanced look.
Maximalist bathroom trends include bold patterns, bright colors, and eclectic layering of textures and materials. Expect the unexpected – vintage pieces with modern furnishings, repurposed items coordinated with bold color palettes. Additionally, you can expect that beautiful scents will play a role in the aesthetics of the bathroom design. Candles, diffusers and sprays enhance mood, while maximalists overwhelm bathroom visitors with bold artistic statements.
Sustainable and natural materials

Sustainability is no longer a buzzword. It is the cornerstone of modern design and 2025 bathroom trends are no exception. “Sustainability will also be a priority, so look for reclaimed wood-look tiles and eco-friendly grout,” says Eylor.
For this trend, bathrooms are being equipped with environmentally friendly materials such as bamboo, reclaimed wood, natural stone, recycled glass, and replica furniture and furnishings. Not only do these materials look great, but they also help reduce the environmental footprint of new manufacturing processes.
The authenticity of natural stoneware will also be trendy in 2025. Organic elements like stone sinks, live wood vanities, and ceramic pots for plants add a touch of nature indoors. These design choices are consistent with the increasing emphasis on creating environmentally conscious homes.
Behind the walls, you'll find water- and energy-efficient fixtures like low-flow showerheads, water-saving toilets, and lighting that reduces energy consumption. As smart bathrooms become more commonplace, automated features for spas will complement homeowners' love of saving money by going green.
