I would like to move directly into the latest project from Los Angeles-Abased designer Lindsey Colhoun. She knocked into her natural design talent for a beautiful one renovation In Lake Sherwood, a dreamy sea town that is embedded in the Santa Monica Mountains. Once dark and dated that home was transformed into a slightly fulfilled sanctuary where Napa farmhouse Charm meets California Cool. It's so cozy. Here are five design ideas that I take away from this cozy modern Farmhouse Renovation.

1. Create a feeling of warmth with natural materials

The homeowners, a family of five, introduced themselves to a room that felt brighter, warmer and inviting – a place where everyday life could combine with moments of calm and connection. Lindsey's goal was to honor this vision and at the same time reinterpret the layout and style of the house in order to better reflect the needs and lifestyle of the family.

“To compensate for the extent of the room with a warm, inviting atmosphere, we have installed natural materials and redesigned the design with a fresh, updated approach, the refined rustic elements mixed with timeless, more traditional details,” says Lindsey.
2. Illuminate the room with color and light

The original dark brown soil of the house was illuminated into a rustic natural tone, which stopped the room and leaned into modern aesthetics (against too far into the kitschy farmhouse).

From the fresh kitchen to the conversion of bathrooms, Lindsey paid a uniform palette of natural elements – light wood, stone and soft neutral – and gives unique details in every room. Expansive glass panes that are framed in minimal black wood act like oversized landscape paintings, pull the view and let the interior flood. Wood rays have been added to introduce character and texture.
3. Design for everyday life

Cue the Nancy Meyer's cooking scene: In the kitchen and in the living room, the design invites the connection – spaces for cozy meetings, sensible moments and lots of fun with the family.

“We kept a uniform palette in every room, but introduced various elements to give each area its own character,” explains Lindsey. She achieved this with lighting and accessories such as pots and planters, pillows and works of art.

Unique tile patterns, custom washbasins and thoughtful lighting give each bathroom its own story without interrupting the general harmony.

This bathroom gives a completely different mood than the above, and still feels connected to the room with its rustic modern elements, such as a vintage carpet, paired with marble tiles and a stone sinks, paired with brass lights.

The main sleeping room offers a calming escape from playfulness and togetherness of the common rooms.
4. Hear the interior indoors

With a background, this beautiful, the border between interior and out was a must. Lindsey leaned into this by containing glass doors and windows that offer the landscape uninterrupted visual lines and continued materials such as wood and stone from the outside to the interior.

“We wanted the rooms outdoors to feel like a natural expansion of the house,” said Lindsey. “By using a soft, neutral palette inside, the lively outdoor landscape could be the focus.”
5. Don't be too picky; A home should feel like a hug

Although the house is spacious, it never feels great. Each room has been redesigned to promote togetherness – whether it is entertaining guests or is committed to dinner a week. Cushions, candles, books and ceilings invited someone to become cozy and make sure that it never feels too picky.

The materials were selected not only for their beauty, but also for their durability. I especially love the oversized sofa – perfect for cuddling – and these candy glasses? Chef of the chef.

“The goal was to create a home that lived in the lived and is easy to wait without affecting the style,” says Lindsey.
