Memory parallels create a modern home in a remote corner of Kozhikode and merge a contemporary structure with traditional craftsmanship and colloquial language. “The website was with Mango, Bougainvillea, Jackfruch, Neem and other indigenous trees that offered organically green fences as a demarcation,” says Nikhil Mohan and Shabna Nikhil, the carchite of thinking systems that the couple commissioned to bring their Sylvan Sylvan. GLA-and-Concrete structure, which is crowned by a wing-shaped recessed roof made of light steel and wood, looks out of this vegetation and sets up a show quietly.
In contrast to the facade, a material pallet made of concrete, Kadappa tiles and wooden slats on the ceiling ensures interiors that are an allusion to the colloquial language of Kerala and feel comfortable and lived. At the opposite end of the living room there is a six-seater-dining table in a lighter wood, which is illuminated by a striking red trailer light. The dining area flows organically into the kitchen, a minimal, yet warm room with wooden shelves, tiled back splash in brown and chestnut industry scales, blue-green cupboards and a wooden kitchen island with carved legs and a black granary part. All over the homeland add patterned tiles, terracotta inserts, works of art and wall carpets from the naga, based in Dimapur, the simple decor color and texture.
