There are many IKEA pieces that enjoy a lot of popularity and have achieved a cult status. One of the newer additions – compared to Billy and Kallax – to this Hall of Fame is the IKEA IVAR cabinet. Made made of pine wood and a very simple and uncomplicated design that we all expect from Ikea, it is only natural that there would be many IKEA IVAR hacks from which you can inspire yourself.
The IVAR series was first introduced as a shelf system under the name Bosse in 1967. And while the shelves are still available today, most IKEA hacks concentrate on the Ivar cabinets instead.
“Ikea Ivar is the perfect canvas for creativity,” says Jana Cagin, founder of Prettypegs, a company that specializes in adapting Ikea furniture. “His untreated wood, the ideal dimensions and the affordability make it easy to personalize.”
However, if you do not yet own the IVAR cabinet and don't buy the most convenient for you, there are other retailers who sell similar cupboards, even in pine wood, in which you can invest instead.

Do not run, do not go, if you want to fry this pine cabinet from Debenhams – it is currently cheaper than the IKEA IVAR design itself, price for £ 75.

If you are looking for an alternative to the IVAR cabinets, Vidaxl's pine wood are the next match.

But Amazon also sells the Vidaxl Pine Wood Sideboards. Including this size, which looks almost the same as the individual Ivar cabinet.
But without further ado, these are some of my favorite methods to update and personalize the Ivar cabinet beyond the recognition that I came across.
1. Create a floating sideboard

Transforming the IVAR cabinets into a sideboard is one of the most popular hacks -and it is also a fairly simple DIY project. But since the cabinet comes without legs, one of the ways is to attach it to the wall and to create a floating side arrangement that is perfect for small living room ideas.
“Transform the Ivar cabinets into a slim, floating credibility,” says Alex Stubbs, Flitch Inner Stylist. 'Assemble the cupboards on the wall, add a custom wooden top and end with minimalist handles. This clean, floating effect is particularly great in smaller rooms because it frees the ground free. '
And it won't hurt to end it with one color.
2. Paint a pattern

Speaking of color ideas, you don't have to use it to cover the entire surface of the IVAR cabinet. You can become much more creative and paint a pattern instead.
Regardless of whether you choose trends and and timeless stripes and make it a striped track scheme or make something bizarre and fun for an Ikea game room idea for your little one, the world is your oyster.
3. Adjust it with the wall

Color wetnesses have been one of the largest motorhome trends in recent years – and it doesn't work so soon. So why not include your IVAR cabinet in your colored wet scheme by painting it as well as the wall, especially when it is a deliciously beautiful and trendy Burgundy color as the Tanisha-Cannings from @Butforlove on Instagram, has used on your IVAR cabinets and walls.
“I recently tackled a hack project with Ikea Ivar cabinets. I wanted something that was unique my own what the project was doing. I had no strict vision for the end product – only trusted the process and heard when it felt right. This was surprisingly simple and incredibly therapeutic. For me, the journey is to turn simple pieces into something special, just as worthwhile as the end result, ”says Tanisha.
And if you want to reproduce Tanisha's soaked look, she has used the shadow sommelier from Sherwin-Williams. But I think Etruscan Red from Farrow & Ball's newly disconnected color shadows would be the perfect alternative. This color was far from mine and Ideal at homeThe editor -in -chief, Heather Young's favorite from the new range.

Etruscan red is an earthy setting to the normally strong color red. It is rich and warm and perfect for the current trend of dark red and burgundy.
4. Cover with a final finish

Rilp and corrugated surfaces are not only the trend styles for wall paneling in 2025. They also offer a great way to increase simple pieces of furniture such as the IKEA IVAR cabinet.
And while you can buy this mostly by buying wooden slats or a reed kit, Prettypegs offers a number of products that were specially developed for the hacking of the IKEA IKEA's hacking, including the corrugated cladding like this, to cover the simple doors.
“Since not everyone is a DIY expert, we have created Prettypegs so that everyone can easily adapt their Ivar with stylish add-ons,” says Jana von Prettypegs.
5. Add interesting handles and legs

Replacing the handles and potentially even legs on each piece is one of the simplest ways to build furniture. And it is the perfect way to chop an Ikea piece, as it is often equipped with very simple and not very stylish handles and legs.
And since the Ikea Ivar is equipped without legs or handles, this hack is perfect for it. You may have noticed that even Tanisha's color -soaked sideboard offers a number of chic, wavy handles and spherical legs that you can get back from Prettypegs.

Planken hardware make some demanding, funky and playful handles, many of which can also be bought from B&Q. If you want to inject your Ivar cabinet some color, add buttons like this purple make the trick.

At £ 16.40 for a single leg, these are by no means cheap. But they look so stylish and immediately collect all pieces of furniture to which they have been added. And they are difficult to find elsewhere.

Everything that is loved in the interior is loved in the interior. So if you want to recreate Tanisha's wavy handle -look, these Etsy games fit.
6. Decorate with wallpapers
(Credit: Prettypegs)
Another way to give your IVAR cabinets some color and pattern without using the color is either decorative stickers or wallpaper if you have smaller pieces from an earlier project.
But if you come to the Ikea Ivar cabinets after something tailor-made, Prettypegs has teamed up with the wallpaper Company Photowall and created a number of peel and stick-rear with the perfect dimensions for the IVAR cabinets. My personal favorite is the design of Morning Light Layer, as shown above.
7. Raise with sugar cane inserts
In recent years, rattan and Canane inserts have been trendy on furniture. And just like Jenn Liu from @jnn.liu.liu on Instagram, she switched off an Ikea Kallax -Hack and turned it into an individual bar cabinet for your living room with chic Cane inserts like this from Etsy, you can do something similar with Ikea Ivar.
Meg Monde (@Megmmmmmmme on Tiktok) tried it and the result not only looks super demanding, but is no longer recognized compared to the original. Who would have thought that this was once a budget -friendly piece of flat pack furniture?!

This shows that you never have to be satisfied with clear and boring. There are so many ways to improve what you already have, and so many IKEA hacks that you can take advantage of whether this are IKEA Billy -Bücher -Hacks or options for increasing the IKEA IVAR. What was your favorite?
