8 bedroom decoration errors that you should never do

Given the time in which you spend in your bedroom, you would like to make sure that it is a first -class level! To ensure that your bedroom is as stylish and functional as possible, you should avoid these eight common design errors that the professionals notice quickly.

Go to Matchy Matchy

A MATCHY -MATCHY look is simply not what designers are looking for in terms of the bedroom. “Mixing textures and patterns adds depth and personality,” explains Elle Cole, the founder of Elle Cole Interiors in Dallas, Texas. Jewel Marlowe, the founder of Jeweled Interiors in the Fairfax Station, Virginia, expresses similar thoughts. “It is not necessary to buy the complete bed linen in one pocket,” she says. “You may be even happier if you mix a variety of size and patterned pillows, a separate duvet set or coverer. This is an opportunity to have fun and be creative.”

Designers say that this also applies to suitable furniture sets for bedrooms. “It can completely take the character out of a room,” says Divya Vaswani, the founder of Divya Vaswani Interiors in Atlanta, Georgia. “There will be not only too many pieces of furniture and feel overcrowded, but also no creative, unique flow for the bedroom.”

Overcrowding of the room

Your bedroom is by no means full of furniture, regardless of whether it is a large or a small room. “Resist the urge to go over and let the room breathe,” says Cole. Make sure that you make your bed the main focus of the room, says Debbie Mathews, the founder of Debbie Mathews Antiques & Designs in Nashville, Tennessee. “I often tell the customer that the bed should serve as” Belle of the Ball “and are the focus.”

Decoration with too much color

It is not always the best choice in the bedroom. “I have seen a lot of bedrooms that pack really intense color through color and wallpaper, and I'm simply not a fan of this kind of design work for a bedroom,” says Sara Swabb, the founder of Storie Collective in Washington, DC “This room should be designed with consideration of calm and peace for relaxation and sleep.” This does not mean that you have to skip the color completely, adds Swabb, but it recommends that she recommend a softer approach.

Do not take care of the scale

If a bedside table is on the top of the mattress, a bedroom can scare off a little, notes. “Not only does it look uncomfortable, but also endangers the bedside table functionality,” she says. The scale is equally important when it comes to ground cover. “A carpet that is too small can feel like a stamp in the room and put on your eyes in the middle instead of improving the room and making it bigger, but still warm,” says Whitney Durham, the founder of Whitney Durham Interiors in Atlanta.

Suppression of your bed

Make sure your bed is equipped with the right amount of bed linen and pillow. “I always specify at least two layers of sleep cushions, a layer of decorative pillows and a blanket or a cover in a striking car. Go to everything in and buy bed linen that you will also enjoy every evening. “Wait for your favorite brand for sale and you will be grateful that you have done it,” says Vaswani. “Good bed linen can be expensive, but it is something magical to crawl into the most luxurious leaves at night. It is an immediate way to increase your room.”

Neglect your lighting situation

Imagine that your bedroom is well lit and stays away from hard overhead devices – choose a “soft, layered lighting”, suggests Cole. O'Agara agrees. “I really believe in avoiding (especially at night) the bedrooms. Therefore, it is particularly important to add enough ambient lighting in the entire room so that you can avoid that you switch on all over -head lights in the evening,” he says. If you are a bookworm, integrate reading lighting on the bedside. “I often recommend swing arm -schonconces that are adjustable so that you can read in many different bed positions,” says Mathews.

Fan

Instead of installing an overhead lamp, choose a fan! “Sleep, good sleep, is one of the best things we can do for ourselves.” Tip: get one that mixes with the blanket and when your blanket is painted, get a white fan and let it agree. ”

Damage to window treatments

Another way to ensure that you sleep as well as possible is to invest in quality window treatments. “You should always make sure that you have a blackout treatment for the guest or the person who does not sleep well and needs a complete darkness to sleep,” says Erin Pitte Pitts, the founder of Erin Pitt Interiors in Annapolis, Maryland and Delray Beach, Florida.
