If you are like me and have plans to renovate your home base home, make sure that you have these tools in your tool kit to not only make your work easier, but also to increase your results. And even better, they cost less than £ 30 each.
While there are certain tools that every home owner should have, they are not up to the task of my renovation plans, including laying new bathroom floors and repairing the tiles on the wall, replacing some drainage boards that my puppy used as a kit, and boxing in some lines in my toilet, which was discovered to solve a leak.
To prepare, I have put together this list of inexpensive tools and devices that I buy to see myself through my task list. They are all at the beginning.
For more expensive tools, I weigh whether it is worth buying or whether it is a better option to rent one or to borrow one of friends and family. (I predict that it will be the latter).
1. Bolzenfinder
I borrowed a stud finder from my brother, and I have done so often that it is definitely time to buy my own. While I may have already changed the walls that I had planned for the change (at least for now), I have more pictures to hang and am paranoid if I accidentally hammer into a pipe or a cable.
If you have the same concern, you can have tunnels, cables and metal to search for a bolt finder or a wall scanner so that you can effectively tackle your renovation plans without causing unnecessary damage.
Mekurate Finder -Wandscanner -Sensor
There are a number of stud finders on the market. However, if you have difficulty deciding, this Amazon bestseller is thanks to more than 2,500 5* reviews in my basket.
2. Contour display
Houses are full of unpleasant angles and notches that can make things like laying floors or the adaptation of tiles incredibly difficult. And that managed to replace the floor in my bathroom myself until I came across a contour display. Where was that all my life?
Simply push the metal (or plastic) pens of your contour meter against the unpleasant shapes and connect them.
This durable contour meter is essential for every DIY renovator and has imperial and metric measurements. If you need something bigger, you can connect several measuring devices.
3. Mirscape block
To help when I replace the headed circuit plates, a miter block for my Reno toolkit is a worthy addition.
It offers the possibility to cut the perfect 90 or 45 ° angle and to ensure a flush fit. Remember to cut in the right direction, depending on whether your circulation or control meets an inner or outer corner.
Magnusson Wood Mitler Box & Saw (300 mm)
With a saw, this miter block offers a good price -performance ratio. Attach it to your workbench to ensure the stability when cutting.
4. Laser level
I already have a spirit level, but with just a few hands I definitely invest in a laser level to make straight lines easier.
In addition to the renovation, this will also be incredibly useful if you hang wallpaper or pictures.
Nikotek
Nikotek Green Laser Level Self Leveling Cross Line
This battery -powered laser mirror is both water and dustproof, which makes it particularly suitable for messy renovation projects. You can also buy it with a tripod for further £ 15.
5. Safety equipment
Renoving can be dirty and dusty work. So I make sure that I protect myself with a suitable PSA kit in the form of dust masks (and maybe a few safety glasses)
Disposable dust masks are popular and inexpensive. Depending on the task, however, I may need a heavier dust mask like this JSP mask of £ 29 from Creckfix. I will make sure that I instead of researching to make sure that I wear the right kit for the job.
This sentence of two disposable dust masks is ideal for light grinding and decorating and has a flexible nasal strip for effective adaptation.
6. Kessel weapon
I would like to use, boil, filling, densely or glue, so I add a robust boiler gun to my arsenal.
I had one before that was too weak and it broke after a few applications, so this time I choose a heavy duty.
Amazon Basics Heavy Duty sealant Caulking pistol
With more than 5,000 5* ratings, it is no wonder that this high -performance option Amazon Choice Status has.
7. Work light
Some of my plans include work in narrow rooms in which natural light cannot reach, and my ceiling lights will not be enough. But since the days get shorter, this can be problematic, especially if I do this work outside of my daily job.
And so is a working light that is powerful enough to create the whole light that I need and it is definitely on my shopping list.
With a 3.5m cable and an adjustable angular stand, you can maneuver this light where you need it to ensure optimal task lighting.
8. Stamet leaves
Staubs are a must if they renovate and I have to stock up. In my experience, you will not prevent the dust from moving all over your house (it only comes everywhere), but you will help minimize it as far as possible.
Brackit zipper door dust leaf
This dust sheet is specially designed for a single door, and the opening with zipper means that you can still use the door if you need it.
9. Carpet protection
As someone who previously relied on the local newspaper to protect my carpet from color splashes and rubble, just falling the brush where the paper was not, I definitely followed a more serious approach to protect my soils.
I choose something hard to avoid the risk of punctures or tears where debris could get through.
Builders bull high-performance carpet protection 50m
Make quick work to protect carpet floors with this carpet protector. It also comes with your own cutter and you can settle it for 20 days before you have to worry that it leaves a sticky gap.

Should you your own renovation DIY?
Taking a renovation work is a great way to save money, but you have to be versed to avoid the interruptions that could make it more expensive than just calling a professional.
First, how much or what aspects of the job you should depend on your skills and skills. Touch and decorating is usually the place where most people choose DIY, and the risk of serious error is low. However, the installation of a new kitchen may be best up to a professional if you have never done it before.
Even experienced renovators have things that they want to have left to the professionals after they have been underestimated how challenging or chaotic it can be.
Everything that should be left to electrical or sanitary loss in connection with a specialist.
