8 designer tricks to make a small bathroom look bigger

In an ideal world, your bathroom would be a spacious, spa-like retreat with a double washbasin, a separate shower and tub and sufficient storage for all your most important basics. But in reality your bathroom may be just a small, mainly functional space. But don't worry – if this is not an option, you are not quite lucky. With a few intelligent design tricks you can create the illusion of a larger, more comfortable room. According to interior designers, you look greater in the opinion of interior designers.

Replace this shower curtain with a glass door

Shower curtains cut off your bathroom and make the room appear smaller. So exchange it and instead add a glass door. “A glass door can immediately add a few square meters of visually into the room,” says interior designer James Pearse Connelly. “Now you can see more of the room!” The more you have to stay properly, he warns.

If you do not have the budget to install a new shower door, you can at least replace your opaque shower curtain for a transparent option with which you can continue to visually expand the room.

Reflect as much light as possible

Another trick to make your bathroom look larger is to reflect light. Connelly suggests using large mirrors, which means that it is time to replace this small dated medicine cabinet with a much more extensive mirror.

Another option, as the designer advises the reflection of light, is to choose Chrome hardware. “It will let the light dance through the room,” he says.

Go monochromatic

Connelly recommends choosing a very dark or very light color scheme in the bathroom to visually expand the room. “For example, a purely white or a purely black bathroom can influence the lighting differently and dramatically, which looks larger the room and at the same time takes the space into new dimensions,” he explains.

With regard to certain colors, the designer likes to be deep navy blues and dark burgundy as well as ivory and creams. “These colors offer a refined but spacious feeling,” he says.

When it comes to lowering, less is more

The sink and the washbasin can mean the difference between the feeling of feeling in a clashed closet or not. The designer Shannon Askinasi of ash and pine rooms says that floating wood or marble washbasin are always a good choice for small bathrooms.

“If you can see the floor below the washbasin, the room feels larger,” says Askinasi.

Connelly also recommends keeping the sink proportional to the room. “When the room is small, keep the sink small,” he says. “I prefer to see as much soil as possible in small rooms.”

Install patterned wallpaper

While it is different than the monochromatic look that Connelly suggests above, Askinasi is a large fan of installing vinyl wallpapers in smaller bathrooms. “I think that vertical stripes, chevrons and large repeat patterns – with a lot of negative space – are the perfect way to make a small bathroom appear larger,” she says.

Don't be afraid to be brave

“When designing a small bathroom, I always try to include a few design elements that insert one slap,” Notes Askinasi. “Regardless of whether it is a corrugated vanity, a beautiful accent wall, interesting lighting or all the above, I give the eye several places to make a small room larger. I would also like to include glass pendants or wall lights to reflect light and create the illusion of depth. ”

Keep your surfaces constant across all surfaces

Connelly tells me that it is best to avoid the emphasis on specific details such as shape, blankets or floors and instead achieve a coherent look. “Let your floor tile come to the wall,” he recommends. “Paint your ceiling the same color as the walls. Bring your workplate stone behind the mirror. ”

Keep it confusing

While it is necessary to get some objects such as a soap pump and maybe a toothbrush, it will only look overloaded and packed.

While you probably need a trash can, it is best to hold the piston and the toilet brush from the ground and to keep away out of sight.
