The University of Houston Regen's Board of Regen has approved the acceleration of the second phase of the 18 million dollar -Campus lighting and safety improvement project. This accelerated approach will significantly advance the ongoing efforts of the university to improve the security of the campus, with priority student living resolutions completed by December 2025.
“Safety has top priority at the University of Houston, and we set ourselves for tangible improvements that improve the well -being of our students,” said Raymond Bartlett, Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance. “With this accelerated timeline, we ensure that critical security upgrades, including additional lighting, cameras and emergency stations, are implemented as soon as possible.”
Accelerated timeline of phase two
The UH System Board approved an increase in the contracting authority to enable the immediate continuation of lighting and security improvements. This decision enables the university to use its current contractor to accelerate the work instead of delaying the project for a separate procurement process.
The updated timeline for phase two includes:
Priority plots (student dormitories):
- Lose 3a, 3b, 4a, 6a – estimated completion: November 2025
Additional lots:
- Lose 12a, 15h, 16b/c/d/e/f, 21a/b – Estimated completion: December 2025
Campus -wide safety improvements
The Campus lighting and safety improvement project aims to increase security on the entire campus. After completion, the initiative adds:
- More than 400 new lighting goods
- 195 surveillance cameras
- 42 emergency calls and security kiosks
18 million US dollars were dedicated to the first two phases. The first phase that focused on residential buildings and perimeter parking spaces is about to complete. With the newly approved acceleration, phase two will not only upgrade four other plots in the residential area, but also nine other properties on the entire campus. As part of the security assessment ,, Parking spaces were analyzed to determine the amount and types of the new lighting that are required for uniform expenses in the lots. including the conversion of LED lighting and improved lumens per square foot for security.
“By rapid barrier from phase two, we deal with priority areas of the campus and strengthen our commitment to security and ensure that our campus community benefits from improved security measures as soon as possible,” added Bartlett. “This project is an important step in creating a safe environment for everyone.”
Future developments and centennial master plan
In addition to the Campus Lighting and Security Enhancement Project project, further lighting improvements in the last phase with the wider campus transformation efforts will collapse that are described in the Centennial Master Plan. The plan deals with improvements to the inside campus, including the construction work of Centennial Plaza and a redesign of the University Drive.
