With a demanding aesthetic attraction that is reminiscent of living organism, the pavilion embodies the theme quest of life
April 10, 2025
Tokyo, April 10, 2025 – Fujifilm Business Innovation announces that its structural color clutch technology has been implemented to the exterior of one of the characteristic pavilions called “Dynamic Equilibrium of Life” on the Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan (here in the Expo 2025), from October 13 to 202 October takes place.
The structural color inkjet technology is Fujifilm's proprietary decorative technology that uses inkjet pressure to create a structural color, a dyeing phenomenon that is made possible by reflection of light without using pigments or dyes in order to achieve an examination level of aesthetic attractiveness. The highly developed aesthetic attraction of the structural color clutch ink ink beam technology, which remembers the lifespan, was highly evaluated and selected to paint the pavilion, which was discussed as the “quest of life”.

The signature pavilions are at the center of the Expo 2025 location and serve as the starting point for the Signature Project (Brilliance of Life Project) Pavilion, which was developed by eight leading experts in various areas and of which everyone has a different topic. One of these pavilions is referred to as a dynamic balance of life, which is developed by Shin-Ihi Fukuoka, a biologist, under the subject of the source of life.

About structural color clutch ink -beam technology
The structural colors inspired by nature have been used in decorative objects since antiquity. The Molecular Control Technology of the Fujifilm Group is applied to the structural color -inked technology to create fine structures in the ink, which is exhausted on a film mobile material, creating the color. By preparing several types of ink, which create structural colors with different colors and set the combination and density of the inks, it is possible to color in many structural colors and gradients in order to achieve a high aesthetic attractiveness.
In addition, the structural color coupling technology can be combined with a variety of light sources to create a wide range of color expressions so that it is suitable for decorating transparent resin and glass. These properties can be seen in the outside area of the pavilion.
In addition to the watch faces, works of art and ornaments that have so far been decorated with this technology, it can also be used for indoor and external design. Since it can be controlled by reflection and transmission of light, it can also be applied to spatial designs, e.g. B. the decoration of solar collectors and displays.
In the future, we are planning to use the aesthetic attraction of this technology and to expand your applications over a variety of purposes by combining them with new processing technologies.
Features of structural color inkino technology

① Expression of the colored structural color
By combining several inks that create structural colors of different colors, it is possible to express full colored structural colors from red to blue, depending on the wavelength of the light.

② Expression of structural color patterns and gradients
Since structural colors can be freely displayed using inkjet pressure, it is possible to express patterns in a variety of colors and gradients with different color seals.
In addition to the reproduction of the colors of Morpho -butterflies, jewel beetles and other colorful forms of life that exist in nature with pressure, it is also possible to create structural colors from the design data of the choice. An unprecedented aesthetic attraction is possible, including structural wooden grain patterns that do not exist in the natural world.

Changes depending on the point of view
③The color changes depending on the angle of sight
The color of the same printed material changes depending on the point of view.
④ Controlling light reflection and transmission
The color also changes depending on the background color. If structural color is added to a black background, the transmitted light is absorbed and the reflected color of the structural color is visible. But against white background, the transmitted light is not absorbed and the supplementary color becomes visible.
Comparison between dyes/pigments colors and structural colors
The combination of such characteristics can create the structural color clutch -inkjet technology decorative expressions that use light. It also enables the combination of functions and designs that use light in a new and original way. In addition, this technology enables the on-demand pressure of structural colors that do not exist in nature, which are expressed by various file formats. This function creates a completely new level of aesthetic attraction.
