In search of a residential culture style for my small, light studio apartment in New York City, I came across the “organic modern” aesthetics. The definition really felt for my tiny space, a mixture of modern and minimalist style that was infused with the natural beauty of organic materials. I quickly filled my Pinterest board with inspiring pictures to lead me.
But after I knew my walls and paired with a cream -colored bed linen and linen drapery, it didn't feel right. My room felt cold and missing. Did I do something wrong? I wanted to know what I was missing, so I called Olivia Westbrooks, CEO from Olivia Westbrooks Interiors, co-moderator of the interior design series from Hallmark+,. At home is where the heart isFor some urgently needed instructions.

“Organic modern aesthetics is nothing to complain about, but what feels a room as if you are injecting things that feel personally,” she said after analyzing my strong space. “What brings you joy and lights up your soul: something that is part of your family history?” So you bring in a personal element into the families, the houses of which they redesigned in their Hallmark+ series.
“Things that come back to people who meant a lot to us feel connected to their past. That gives them the feeling of belonging in a room. It is surrounded by things that they love, but also memories of people who loved and also loved them.”
Westbrooks emphasized that layers are the key to creating a more personal atmosphere in my house. “That will give you this cozy feeling,” she suggested. “Layers of textures, whether wood, stone or fabric.” Patterns such as sludge cloth or kente would easily bring color and texture without having to make changes on the walls.
She also pointed out that green brings life to a room. “There are indications that plants really bring a certain energy into our rooms,” remarked Westbrooks. “They deliver the oxygen that we have to breathe and really have a ghost over them.” Adding mirrors helps “the light” in a room. “It will make the room feel far more expansive.”
Armed with the knowledge of Westbrooks, here are five products that helped me add an urgently needed culture and texture to my room.
