Good residential culture is subjective – and the “outdated” interior design is not as easy to show an old piece of furniture or an old decor. For example, your mother's old lamp from the 50s that you used to do? Well, we now call this the modern in the middle of the century, and in the right context it could be the object of the decoration that makes a room look cool and unique. With increasing interest in vintage furniture, “dated” pieces are very much in demand – and you can help you give your home more charm and style.
However, there are certain design options – such as the renewal of trends too precisely or the establishment of your entire house with suitable sets – that can feel unintentionally out of date. In the following, design experts explain which styling moves can keep your home in the past -and how you can choose more timeless design.

Trend trends
In order to keep your home tastefully every decade, you can avoid trend trends, also known as an ultra-trendy living culture, which will be outdated in a few months. “The biggest setback for the constantly chasing trendy living culture is the hardest in your paperback,” says Megan Paulson, founder and main designer from Ventura, at 22 Design House. “The trends for residential culture are now constantly developing and changing – from colors to surfaces to shapes and sizes. It is best to stick to what they love, and to collect these parts and objects that they will appreciate for a long time.”
Instead of trying to keep up with all the latest trends, concentrate on “a timeless and personalized environment,” says Jasmine Crockett, founder and CEO of Joymeetshome, who is located in Atlanta. “The trendy approach often neglects the essential elements of functionality, comfort and the unique personality of the home owner and makes the design appear superficial and short -lived. The key is to achieve a balance between timeless elements and trends in a way that can be easily updated when the styles develop.”
Discontinuous decor
If there is one thing we love, oh boy, it's color. And while strong shades and colors can become a permanent choice of design in your home, it is important that everything flows just right. “As a designer, a home feels out of date for me when there is a lack of coherent design in the entire room, which leads to a non -matching and incoherent feeling,” says Crockett. To avoid a separate and dated home, you will find a color palette that you can use throughout the house.
Oak facility
Although the 20th century preferred a variety of wood -centered interior design trends, this fashion appearance does not feel quite modern enough for its home today. “Eiche and Country Pine pieces from the 1980s have come in everything,” says Paulson. “Think of dining tables, huts, Hall trees, secretary switches, cupboards, bookshelves, chests of drawers, etc. If you have repeated these pieces in your house or other matchical furniture, like all dark espresso furniture, for example, screams after the new.”
Bedroom with topics
Although we fully agree that theme rooms are undoubtedly cute, they don't necessarily age well. “Excessively thematic or excessive coordinated bedrooms can look outdated if the design preferences change,” says Crockett. Extravagant thematic decor, such as nautical wallpaper and strong use of flower patterns, can quickly date with a room, she says. Rather, implement low elements of your FAV topics to ensure that your space is both fun and fresh. For example, if you are as obsessed with “Mermaid” like us, try to choose a few accent pieces such as a pearl lamp or an aqua blue identical instead of taking over your entire room with a decor with sea motifs.
Too much texture
Playing with textures is a great way to give every room dimension. However, some elements are simply not up -to -date for the here and now. According to Paulson, popcorn ceilings, strongly structured walls, dark wood cladding and tiled worktops belong. “These elements can easily give a room an old -fashioned and outdated appearance,” says Crockett. Consider a modern approach to slim stones and materials such as marble and concrete for fancier and of course looking texture.
Matching furniture sets
The right furniture sets are a simple and efficient way to decorate every room, but their rigid uniformity could be to hold back their home (temporal). “Suitable furniture sets can give a predictable and outdated appearance to a room,” says Crockett. Instead, mix the shapes and textures of your pieces of furniture so that you can avoid excessive similarities.
Extravagant floor coverings
The flooring is an incredibly important aspect of a room – and not just because you need it to walk around. Because the floor covering reflects or absorbs light, which means that it often happens, how bright or moody a room feels, the selection of the right option can create or break a space. According to Paulson, it is best to cancel yellow golden wooden floors, carpets throughout the house as well as linoleum and vinyl floors. Instead, choose light, brighter wood and ceramic tiles.
