In 2025, Farmhouse Style is alive and good, but it looks a little different from the modern, rustic magnolia home aesthetics, which you probably knew and may have loved in the past decade. Designers have now primarily accepted Joanna Gaines' cozy interior design style by primarily lending a space that offers a room that is currently from home. And at the moment, designers combine the design points in kitchen trends to the literal stove with the traditional closed stove style, also known as “Herd Cove”.
Essentially, a stove cove transforms the entire area via a stove – not only the range – into an intimate, closed design moment. This trend is a return for the kitchen design lived, which embodies a deliberate, functional and soulful way of life. It underlines an area of the house that accepts the connection through cooking and collecting and offers grounding energy in a fast -moving, digital -oriented world.
Regardless of whether you swung yourself with oven floors over high-end kitchens and did not know what they were called, or you just love a restart of the old school design, you have come in the right place. Here is a short story of the Herd Cove and why you look like you today – maybe even in your tiny rent!
What is a stove bay?
According to Beatriz Rose, an interior designer based in Los Angeles ,, A “Herd Cove”, which is sometimes also referred to as a “cooking ceiling”, is defined as a 20 -year area in the kitchen to accommodate the stove or range. “It is usually framed by three walls, often with built -in niches or shelves to keep cooking like oils, spices and utensils,” she explains. As a rule, the entire area is usually also covered by a massive hood that is hidden with a decorative frame. “Visually, it creates a feeling of intimacy in the cooking zone and can feel like a stove – a focus of warmth and food in the house.”
What is the story of an oven?

When did the stove cove become popular?
In modern times, the Herd Cove style was “rediscovered as part of a broader return to natural materials, historical colloquial language and slower, soul -proof life,” says Rose. The cozy mood of the Herd Cove is in direct contrast to the slim, modern kitchens of the past decade and is probably an indicator of the comfort that longs for an insecure world in which the house becomes a safe harbor. And Rose says that the textures that are usually connected to stove plans – such as weathered stone, rustic bed linen, bricks, aged plaster and antique wood – speak of the desire for authenticity and warmth. These materials have recently been recently – probably for the same reason.
The Herd Cove Trend is also a nice mix of visual charm and functional advantages, since you can equip one with integrated shelves to keep food oils, spices, tools and other important essentials within reach. “The built -in room can help keep the heat around the stove, to keep the food warmer for longer and easily mix the sound of the range,” adds Rose. “This means that the cooking area can feel efficient, atmospheric and grounded.” You can also find that a stove cove can also help to guide the cooking smells into the range, which leads to less persistent smells.
How can you make the Herd Cove look at home?

A tile backplash inspired by vintage above its stove and Delft Tile-Kann also add a lot of character, but this is also not a tenant-friendly solution. Instead, consider some framed Dolft tiles somewhere in the kitchen or use some as trivettes.
And stick to your inspo photos of Herd Cove when this is a look that you really love. Yes, kitchen trends rise and fall out of favor, but everything that is rooted in history will happen again. Maybe one day the stove can and will be your dreams.
