In the heated light of a Sagharbor summer, the interior designer James “Ford” Huniford has put together a retreat on the coast, which whispers more than a call-one or its reluctance, texture and natural rhythm. In the summer edition of presented Elle DecorHis most recent project sits on a peninsula, on the sea grass and the sky meets water in a picturesque blurring. The house, which was built from glass, steel and stone, is a master class in balance: modernist in structure, but deeply soulful in the sound.

Huniford handmade objects and tactile surfaces – oak, bar leather, parchment – with a curatorial eye, which is committed to the idiosynic rate, about expectations. “The goal was to be imaginative and think outside the box,” he notes, and in fact this house feels like a personal cabinet with curiosities.
In a bathroom, the surrounding landscape informed the use of unique handmade pieces that are rich in texture.
