With a current increase in popularity for nostalgic topics and aesthetics, the saying “Everything old again” has never been more true. In order to celebrate his 20th anniversary, Etsy looked at some of the cultural-definent trends from the past two decades and shared those of whom he believes that they are currently taking a comeback. According to the platform, these three home decor trends return to the spotlight.
Rustic farmhouse
The 2018 Shiplap craze led to over 7.7 million search for “rustic objects” this year. In 2025, aesthetics in the last three months of this year will be in the search for “Modern Farmhouse Decor” by almost 3,500 percent compared to the same time in the previous year. The “France Cottage Décor” offers a new version of the trend and is also one of Etsy's best possible terms this year, an increase of over 26,000 percent. Think of dried bundle of flower, chandelier and blue and white toile.
Y2k
Y2K had a big moment on Etsy in the early years, with the search for the term that rose between 2012 and 2013. And this year there will be another return. On the online marketplace, the search for “Y2K decor” has increased by over 250 percent, with custom neon signs Etsys favored articles ever. Mementos, skateboards and photo collages of pop culture complete the Nostalgia collection of the 2000s found on the site.
Boho boom
Etsy was once the unofficial resource for the festival style and the Boho Vibes with the sale of “flower crowns” from 2010 to 2014. The look is back, and the search for “Boho Macrame” décor this year compared to the last. Handmade structured statement pieces with complicated knots and wooden beads are currently popular wall decoration options as well as extensively designed dream catchers and plant brackets that are back on an earthy aesthetics of the 1970s.
