“There's no reason to avoid color when creating a relaxing bedroom, but the best approach is to choose a tone-on-tone look when decorating and make it a specific shade,” explains Taylor Johnson, founder of Taylor Johnson Interiors.

In the bedroom area shown here for a client who loves the color blue, Johnson applied a few different variations of the hue to the wallpaper, headboard fabric, and throw to add brightness to the room without overwhelming the end result.

Alison Hammatt, founder of Alison Hammatt Home, predicts that incorporating a cocoon-like atmosphere into the bedroom will become increasingly popular in 2026. In this brown bedroom, the designer incorporated dark, textured walls and different layers to create a feeling of comfort and calm, she says.

Hammatt focused on bringing in warm, cozy materials like herringbone wool wallpaper, quilted linens, and more to truly create a comforting space that she says feels “cozy and grounded rather than bare or airy.” Hibernate!

Speaking of comfort: The bedrooms of 2026 will not skimp on functionality. Johnson explains that this might mean installing a ceiling fan in the bedroom to ensure optimal sleeping conditions, especially if you live in a warmer climate.

“It’s nice to have a little breeze blowing through the room at night,” she says.

Luckily, she adds, many retailers these days sell aesthetically pleasing fans that also feature smart technology, making it easy to install a nice-looking fan that works without a remote.

Multi-layered lighting

Under no circumstances should you rely solely on the dreaded “big light” in your bedroom next year. As Sonia Chauhan, founder of Studio Sonia Interiors, explains, layered lighting has been all the rage lately and will continue to be popular in bedrooms in 2026.

That means incorporating floor lamps, sconces, and the like rather than just relying on ceiling lights, she notes.

“The goal is not just to brighten the space but also to style it,” says Chauhan. “The right lighting can instantly make a room more relaxing, comfortable and inviting.”

Dressers will come back into fashion next year, says Chauhan, noting that they fell out of favor for a while as people tried to store all their clothes in closets and closets.

“It will no longer be just storage space, it will be part of history,” says the designer about this classic piece of furniture.

She recommends decorating it with artful accents like vases, framed photos, books and more.

“It's these small, thoughtful touches that make the bedroom feel authentic and lived-in,” says Chauhan.

More interesting neutrals

Those drawn to neutral colors in the bedroom will want to expand their scope a bit; Chauhan shares that warmer tones will be all the rage in 2026.

“Think about layers of greige and sand tones rather than dull whites or cool grays,” she says, explaining that maximizing depth and texture to create a living space is a key goal.

The end result will look high quality and will be anything but boring.
