Adaptive scholarship

The College of Adaptive Arts at Saratoga recently received a $100,000 grant from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

The Higher Education Program for People with Disabilities grant will fund upgrades such as new computers, ergonomic furniture for wheelchair users and student transportation. The grant funding will also support the College of Adaptive Arts’ workforce development program.

“Encouraging a love of lifelong learning in our students is our primary focus at the school,” Executive Director Nicole Kim said in a statement. “With this additional support, our instructors have the tools and technology to teach our students. We don't have to worry about whether everything will work out; We can focus on each student and their individual needs.”

Montalvo's literary series

The Montalvo Arts Center opens a new literary arts series on Jan. 22 with an event called “Salt and Poetry.”

The two-hour event includes readings by poets Jessica Cohn, Nancy L. Meyer, Hilary King and Stephanie Pressman, as well as a guided creative writing workshop.
