Let's get to the consolation. The pillows, made from a blend of foam and polyester fibers and covered in a polyester cover, were a pleasant surprise. We didn't have a chance to test the sofa in person, so we were a little skeptical about its strength. When you first sat down, the cushions felt firm – sturdy, but not overly soft. My mother's first comment was, “They are getting softer,” and after three months of daily use, this is definitely the case. Now they offer the perfect balance of support and giving.
To this end, the back cushions are made from a down blend covered in a down-proof ticking, giving just the right amount of softness. Unlike our previous down sofa (which required constant fluffing), the Tidal's cushions held their shape remarkably well. Even with George the Sheepadoodle treating it like his personal throne, the cushions still look and feel fresh. (The coiled wire suspension system ensures that the seats remain stable and do not sag, no matter how often they are used.)
When it comes to versatility, the seating area comes in six different configurations to fit almost any room. We chose the largest configuration—including a left-arm chaise, armless sofa, corner sectional, and right-arm sofa—and it was exactly the size we wanted. With a total width of 152.5 inches, it's massive in the best sense. Not only does it accommodate four adults stretched out comfortably (hello, movie nights), but during our Hanukkah party we easily accommodated ten people without feeling cramped. The left-arm chaise longue in particular has become a popular place to relax, while the deep interior seating area is suitable for both sitting upright and snuggling up under a blanket.
