
Millions of current and former AT&T customers could be eligible for a cash settlement related to two major data breaches. The telecommunications company must pay $177 million to settle class action lawsuits related to the security incidents.
The first case occurred in 2019 and compromised the personal information of approximately 73 million customers, although AT&T did not publicly acknowledge the breach until 2024. The leaked data included names, dates of birth and social security numbers.
The second breach was reported in 2024 and affected even more customers (100 million) after attackers hacked AT&T's data warehouse. Over the years that the US telecommunications industry has existed, there has been no other data breach that surpassed the two combined.
Customers can claim their share of the $177 million compensation pot by applying through the Kroll Settlement Administration website. Depending on whether they were affected by both data breaches, the plaintiffs could receive up to $7,500 each.
Kroll has begun contacting affected customers via email with a “Class Member ID,” which will be used to verify eligibility. However, claimants who did not receive notice may contact the settlement administrator if they believe they are entitled to compensation.
The 2019 incident could be worth up to $5,000 to victims who can prove financial harm, while the second offense could be worth up to $2,500.
As expected, the settlement manager's website reported heavy traffic. Applicants have until December 18, 2025 to submit their claims.
