British Airways proudly celebrates the launch of its new lounge design concept with the opening of two new lounges across its global network, marking a significant step in transforming the airline's premium offering.
In collaboration with global architecture and design firm Gensler, these openings showcase the airline's new design concept, which will serve as a vision for future lounge developments.
Calum Laming, British Airways Chief Customer Officer, said: “We are delighted to unveil our new design concept with new lounges in Miami and Dubai. These unique spaces have been created specifically for our customers and are the next step in our extensive lounge transformation plan. Whether they want to relax, dine, work or enjoy a drink at the fully staffed bar, there is something for everyone included.”
“We are proud to bring our brand to life in these spaces, combining our British originality with the unique character of each destination. This approach has allowed us to make the most of brilliant talent from around the world. We are grateful to all the teams at British Airways and our partners who have helped make our vision a reality. We are incredibly excited to welcome our customers to these new lounges to be welcomed.”
The new design concept is based on hospitality, creating a cohesive architectural identity that connects British Airways lounges worldwide. Inspired by the airline's heritage and the character of each destination, the spaces are designed to feel inviting, intuitive and restful, offering customers moments of calm, connection and joy wherever their journey takes them.
The airline's playful side is reflected in the 'look-up' moments in British Airways lounges, which add a touch of surprise to the experience. For example, upon arrival in Miami, guests are greeted by a floor mural that, when viewed through the mirrored ceiling, reveals the words “London Calling” in homage to the airline's homeland.
MIAMI
This is the first time in decades that the airline will provide its customers with its own lounge in Miami. Opening today, the lounge spans 13,000 square meters, making it the largest lounge outside of London operated exclusively by British Airways.
Located in Terminal E, directly above the departure gate, the space pays homage to the airline's British originality, charm and wit, combined with elements inspired by the city, such as Art Deco design and iconic buildings. With large windows lining the walls, this lounge offers breathtaking views over the airfield and takes advantage of Miami's beautiful skies and light. The airline used Miami-based contractors such as TGA Consulting, Nunez Construction and Bermello & Ajamil Architects, as well as U.S.-sourced materials that reflect both quality and craftsmanship.
Drinks with a view
A striking full-service bar forms the focal point of the lounge and is carefully positioned in front of windows that flood the space with light. Expert bartenders prepare a selection of classic cocktails and mocktails, including a Prickly Margarita – unique to this lounge – as well as a wide selection of spirits and beers, including local ale.
In the zone
The design of the lounge, designed for versatility, offers five different zones that flow seamlessly into one another while at the same time offering individual spaces. In addition to the central bar, it includes a main dining area, focus pods and a sunken central lounge with partitions for those seeking a private space.
Two shower suites and colorful striped washrooms inspired by traditional Miami lounge chairs offer travelers a refreshing respite, complete with reception and amenities.
The kitchen is where Britain meets Miami
The lounge features a self-service dining area serving locally sourced dishes focusing on seasonal Miami produce with a British twist, all freshly prepared in the new, state-of-the-art restaurant-style kitchen. Customers can expect local papaya and lacinato kale salad with toasted coconut and citrus-honey vinaigrette, as well as South Florida fried flounder fish with lemon, kalamata olives, fried capers and rice.
Concorde dining room
Guests traveling in First are invited to enjoy a fine à la carte dining experience in the exclusive Concorde Dining Room. In addition to more personalized service, the experience includes a range of dishes such as Wagyu beef sirloin with roasted trumpet mushrooms and a truffle reduction or roasted scallops. Champagne and English sparkling wine, including Pommery, Cuvée Louise 2005, are also available to guests.
DUBAI
The new space is located in Terminal 1 of Dubai International Airport and covers an area of almost 5,800 square meters. It offers customers an upscale experience that combines contemporary British design with the rich spirit of the United Arab Emirates.
Brought to life by local contractor Al Tayer Stocks, the new space evokes traditional Middle Eastern style with curved arches, patterned metal paneling and mirrored walls inspired by local architecture. As part of the new design concept, a full-service bar serves as the focal point of the space.
A mix of British and Middle Eastern design
Customers are greeted by a framed entrance leading into a space that combines warm hospitality and exclusivity. Artisan finishes such as fluted marble, antique mirrored ceilings and custom details create an inviting and sophisticated space.
The lounge's focal point is a chandelier in the main dining area, framed by a mirrored ceiling, with the iconic British Airways Speedmarque embedded above. Lighting and mirrors are used throughout to reflect light and give the space a feeling of openness.
The washrooms feature locally sourced geometric tiles, while the seating features British heritage fabrics, adding character and comfort.
Fusion of Middle Eastern flavors and British classics
The lounge has its own self-service dining area, offering a range of options including Arabic breakfast, mezze selection, cakes and a cheese platter. Customers can enjoy a selection of premium champagnes and English sparkling wines, as well as expertly crafted cocktails such as a Dubai Chocolate Martini and Bucks Free Fizz made from fresh orange juice with Lyre Classico Grande non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
Coffee Planet, a coffee brand founded in the United Arab Emirates known for its premium Arabica beans, is available alongside Birchall, the airline's new global British tea partner.
Concorde dining room
Customers traveling in First can also enjoy first-class service in the exclusive Concorde Dining Room, accessed via a private entrance. The à la carte menu includes typical Middle Eastern dishes such as Arabic mezze and sweet desserts, Umm Ali, as well as British classics such as the famous Concorde Wagyu burger and Scottish smoked salmon.
