As with low jeans, combat boots and bucket hats in the world of fashion, there are many once marked interior design trends that have finally left the building. Such a trend that designers like to see disappear? Accent walls. The interior design based in California, Kristen Peña, even went so far: “I wish everyone would read the memo that a color wall is not the right way. Be brave and brave!” So what is the hot new design element that runs out of accent walls?
We asked six experts about their thoughts about this matter, and to our surprise they had different answers, but they all focused on the same place: the ceiling, an area of the room that often remains unnoticed because people generally tend to look forward to the front. The ceiling quickly becomes a new place where visual interest is built up, and these designers break down exactly what it works.
Visually illusively
As with many interior designers, Sara Malek Barney based in Texas in Texas, the interior designers based in Texas, she does not skip the ceiling when she has designed a room. “I consider it the fifth wall, and if it is treated equally with the vertical walls of a room, it can increase the space and create a feeling of balance over everything,” she explains. “In a room with high ceilings, it is a good idea to bring the height of the room down a little. I like to do it by adding a wallpaper with gentle colors and a unique pattern to both the ceiling and a few foot of the walls underneath.”
In addition, it is just another expression of personal style to have fun with the blanket. “I love to integrate color, even if it is super subtle,” adds the designer.
Brave
Design enthusiasts are hardly alien to the idea of the colored brave, but some experts are more interested in it than others. Such a designer is that in San Francisco, California, based in Kristen Peña, who, as shown here, is shown when it comes to blown up color. “I like to understand the psychology behind a client. For me, an accent wall is about the desire for visual interest, but only by immersing her toe,” she explains. “Our job as a designer is to present confidence in rooms. Therefore, I always encourage a customer to step in with both feet and soak the whole room – even the ceiling! Lime paint, wallpaper, plaster … just do it!”
Color blocking
While some prefer to spin the walls in a simple, soft neutral, which does not attract a lot of attention, others like to become not one, but two light colors that endeavor in a way that complement each other. “Access ceilings are the only accent walls that our team gives for projects. You have a unique visual weight, add unexpected atmosphere and are a powerful tool to define rooms in a larger row of rooms in the house,” says Emilie Munroe, the designer in San Francisco, California, the designer behind this color. If you want to block color, choose two colors that oppose each other on the color wheel (read: complement).
wallpaper
If you are committed to putting on the ceiling in a luxurious wallpaper, you do not do anything boring that nobody notices. Go with a pattern that has some love. “I prefer a wallpapered blanket over a wallpapered accent wall every day. While the tapetzing accentions can look like they have no more money to complete the room. An accent blanket looks completely and targeted,” explains the barber based in Connecticut in West Hartford, which has designed space here. “It also helps to draw the eye on an area that is ignored so often and causes interest and height in every room,” she adds.
Dark and moody
Miranda Cullen, founder and headmistress of Denver at Inside Stories, is known for her brave and dramatic interiors who radiate complete sophistication. So it should not be a surprise that your preferred palette is more dark than light, as can be seen in this dining room. “Go brave with black for a moody, modern atmosphere or keep them classic with silver, gold or warm tones that bounce off light in the room,” she advises. “The beauty of metal is how it interacts with natural or artificial light with light to create a dynamic look that changes all day.” To draw the eye upwards, says Cullen that it is always a good idea to integrate a metallic element. “While wallpaper and color are still great options (and can even be used in addition to metal for multi -layered interest), nothing falls like a metallic blanket in the eye or the light. It is unexpected, increased and exactly the right amount of extra.”
All -round
If your home is not equipped with unique architectural elements, you can create it yourself. “One of the coolest new design tricks we see is the forgery of architectural details with color and wallpaper – the effect is anything but wrong!” insists that Diane Rath, Diane Rath in Fairfield, started this technology in the above space. “Wickaround Wallpaper treatments set out to changes in the ceiling height and make the architecture feel deliberately and sculptural. Lacquered lines that imitate wainscoting or temps add a timeless, grounded feeling.
