Five bridges that lead to the City of London are dark for the first time – to mark an international event that highlights climate measures.

Tower, London, Southwark, Millennium and Blackfriars Bridges will switch off all non -essential, decorative lighting between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. for the Earth Hour on Saturday, March 22nd.

The City Bridge Foundation, the 900 -year -old charity organization, which takes care of the bridges free of charge for the taxpayer, will support the initiative of the environmental organization WWF with organizations around the world.

In the meantime, the trustee of the foundation, the City of London Corporation, also becomes some of his most famous buildings, including a own Guildhall headquarters, the Mansion House, the home of Mr. Mayor of London, and the Central Criminal Court, better known as The Old Bailey.

The initiative corresponds to the ambitious climate protection strategy of the City Corporation, which the foundation commits the foundation by 2027 and the complete value chain by 2040 – a decade before the national goals a decade ago against national goals in its own business activities and the complete value chain.

Simon Latham, Managing Director of the City Bridge Foundation, said: “As administrators of five of London's best -known bridges, Earth Hour offers the opportunity to create a very clear and very visible demonstration of our engagement for climate measures.

“We are passionate about contributing to our part to tackle this problem in all areas of our work, including our bridge maintenance, our investments and our financing for charity organizations throughout capital.

“Climate campaign is the only problem that requires a coordinated answer. We are pleased to join City Corporation colleagues to raise awareness of this problem by eliminating the lights on some of the most famous sights in the square mile.”
