The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated a significant revision of its street lighting infrastructure by inviting new tenders for the comprehensive maintenance of LED road lanterns in the city.
This decision follows the expiry of the existing contract with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and prompted the GHMC to find a more efficient and more transparent solution to meet the city's street lighting needs. The constant committee of the GHMC appointed a special meeting to take into account the future of the city's street lighting. During this session, the officials presented two main options: extension of the contract with EESL under revised conditions or the initiation of a new tender procedure in order to include another agency through a transparent offer. After thorough discussions and a detailed presentation in which the shortcomings of the previous agreement were emphasized, the committee unanimously decided to continue with the latter option.
The new tender aims to remedy the defects observed in the previous contract and to improve the overall efficiency of the street lighting system. The most important components of the proposed contract include the phase average exchange of existing lights, the installation of new LED street lanterns, the implementation of the central control and monitoring system (CCMS) and the extensive maintenance of the entire street lighting infrastructure. In the meantime before the new agency was installed, the GHMC emphasized the importance of guaranteeing uninterrupted road lighting services. Zonal commissioners have been instructed to monitor maintenance activities in order to prevent failures on duty.
This initiative is part of GHMC's wider efforts to improve urban infrastructure and promote sustainable practices. By introducing energy-efficient LED lighting and advanced surveillance systems, the city aims to reduce energy consumption, reduce maintenance costs and to improve public security. The move also corresponds to the city's commitment to create environmentally friendly and fair urban spaces. The decision of the GHMC to invite new offers reflects a proactive approach for city management and prioritizes transparency, efficiency and sustainability. While the city is preparing for the transition to a new maintenance framework, the residents can expect improved road lighting services that contribute to a safer and more energy -efficient urban environment.
