The Lafayette Hotel in San Diego has been on my radar for a while. I always had something for a Chateau Marmont, the Hotel Chelsea-Type bohemian, a little rough on the edges.
Originally opened as “Imig Manor” in 1946, the property of Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope Hope to Lana Turner and Harry James, who, like his sets, regularly became in the hotel bar after his sets. After the hotel closed its doors in July 2023 after a renovation of 31 million US dollars and a newly discovered Swank feeling in July 2023. Of course I had to see it for myself.
I made myself out of Los Angeles and was pleasantly surprised that the hotel looked just like the photos – maximum style with a strong retro aesthetics. The Art Deco lobby read Maximalist with a capital 'M': thick velvet curtain swags, shiny chessboard floors and oversized tigers that dripped in Burgundy-colored bullion-fringes.
When I checked in, I looked at to see how matching flush flush rides from the ceiling cascaded -a detail that the drama predicted that awaited me upwards.

The moment I opened the door to my room, I saw it: the lamp. A beauty at the bedside table inspired by Victorian, which is perfect for the glamorous star person-princess rock star personality, into which I would slip on for the next three days. It contained a bird in a damask style and a botanical pressure in faded pastel-colored-a soft counterpoint to the less subtle bubblegum cladding of the bed linen.
The fringe was not a bullion, but pearl and jewelry-like view of the recently revived interior design trend, which contained in addition to the eccentric touch of the room, such as the gilded snake-shaped reading lamps that cut up the bed posts.

I needed one for myself. So I did what every design-oriented hotel guest does to the bed, opened my laptop and started hunting. Then I found the modern love lamp from Urban Outfitters: same ancient silhouette, similar flirtigent drama, just a little more me. I dare to say I liked it even better?

More tassels, more fringes and much easier to style in my (comparatively less maximum) space-diesi dome-shaped lamp is everything I wanted, and a few more.

Modern Love Table Lamp
The golden table lamp is classic old Hollywood – timeless and glamorous. Although it is also available in a very further leopard if you want to make more explanation.
While this lamp on a bedside table, of course, would look incredible with black and white marble, a vintage glass carafe and one of these retro-style loudspeakers, as they mean in the Hot Hatten-Mein Lofted bed that I have to get creative.
I now imagine it on the bar car or maybe next to my desk to steer an otherwise practical corner in a moody manner. And because it is only Look Fortunately, antique, it is also for modern life.
Now in New York the modern love lamp is sitting in my cart and waiting to be adopted. And in the event that they follow even more fringes – or a little closer to this pearl original – I have summarized a few more worthy companions below.

Zuikaku table lamp
The Lafayette lamp and this Etsy find could easily be cousins. Pearl strands replace fringes and elegant cranes stretch their wings over the shadow – an allusion to happiness and durability, according to the product side. Explain the ancient mood of this trend trend with a little slick and modern, like a chrome catch.

Edge lamp
There is no hiding place of this maximum fever dream, which is disguised as a lamp. It is essentially a huge tassel – slim, sweaty and somehow brilliant. Ideal for clean rooms that long for movement.

The symbol lamp
This number based on a leopard base serves a cat drama with one side of Vintage Glam. The golden finish, the curved silhouette and the deep green Velvet shadow make it more, less novelty. An icon, okay.
I love to be inspired by the hotels, bars and restaurants that I visit. In fact, I think that they have become my biggest source for new ideas, and I tend to take an idea of every stay with me at home – small, affordable switches that I can make in my own space so that it feels more increased and sophisticated. It seems that light is the thing at the moment. I have just written about my love for the “Orb” lights that I saw everywhere this summer.
