People who live in apartments love Ikea's shoe cabinets. And for good reason – your dimensions are perfect for tight rooms and offer efficient storage without including too much space.

I recently added an Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinet to my own apartment to spend a little additional storage at the end of a hall. The layout of the hall is difficult; It is quite narrow, with doors to the bedrooms on both sides that have to remain unpolished. But the low depth of the hemnes fits just right. For what the cabinet in practicability has to offer, I had the feeling that it was missing in style and I knew that it would need a revision to fit the rest of our house.

This was my opportunity to record a certain design trend that I had admired in my home for a long time: Spulendails. As it turns out, the addition of coil cladding is an incredibly simple and budget -friendly project. I paid less than 100 US dollars for the supplies and completed the project in one day. The change in the color and hardware of the cabinet also helped, but it is really the additional texture and interest of the coils that give the piece of Plain and Longworld to charming and playful pieces.

It is impressive what a big difference made these small half circles. Now we have the advantage of a small additional storage space and a piece of furniture that complements the rest of our room. So I made my Ikea Hemnes charming, timeless and a bit playful.

How I improved my IKEA shoe cabinet

I prepared every piece – separated.

It is more efficient to springs and paint the cabinet and coil cladding separately before Keep in your project. (I actually read this tip in an AT article!)

Otherwise, it will be more difficult to get into these small corners or angles between the coils, and you may have to go with a tiny brush to get the stains you missed.

I used remaining color.

I saved money by using primers and color that I had left out of painting our kitchen cupboards. The color I used (Benjamin Moores Progress) heals to a hard, enamel -like finish that has proven to be long -lasting for our cupboards.

I used miter scissors to cut my cladding.

I ordered six pulling (below 5 US dollars!), But they were all for my project for a bit long. Since I wanted to arrange the cladding on the edges of each drawer, I had to set the lengths of some of the later puzzles in the arrangement that I wanted and used miter shears to cut some of them onto the sizes that I needed before I paint and paint all before the prime.

I used the adhesive to attach the trim – no power tools required!

As soon as the entire color was dry, I used construction adhesive to glue the cladding on the edges of each drawer. For a little additional security, I placed a small piece of painter tape over every cladding to ensure that they remained in the correct position until the glue was completely dry.

Hardware added the perfect finish touch.

I have completed the project by replacing the simpler IKEA hardware with these inexpensive brass buttons that look a bit patina. Now I have the perfect piece for my hallway.
