Natural wood cabinets are currently enjoying great popularity in home design, popping up in kitchens across the country and in the homes of celebrities. This classic look shines on stars like Mindy Kaling, Michelle Pfeiffer and Brie Larson.
Adding to the squad, Kevin Bacon recently revealed his and Kyra Sedgwick's cooking in a video where he shared his “Chicken ala Kev,” showing that they too are fans of the timeless style.

Following Kevin Bacon's example doesn't require expensive furniture construction. I love experimenting with neutral accessories like this Beautiful cutting board from Magnolia's collection at Target.

Serve and style with this beautiful yet functional board. Made from natural wood with scalloped edges for a touch of elegance, it is perfect for presenting appetizers or charcuterie.

When I add a new texture or material to my kitchen, I always start with the basics. Slate and pepper mills are an easy and inexpensive way to achieve additional wood tone. I particularly like the distinctive design of this set from Wayfair.
We could talk endlessly about the versatility of a wooden cutting board in the kitchen. Not only is it a practical, essential tool, but it also serves as a stylish accent that enhances the design of your kitchen.
New York-based interior designer Artem Kropovinsky, founder of Arsight, explains why this trend is here to stay, especially as the weather gets cooler: “Wooden kitchen cabinets add a natural warmth and timeless appeal to the kitchen, making everyone feel at home.” “They offer significant design flexibility that can be achieved through stains and finishes that suit a variety of kitchen styles from rustic to modern.” He adds: “Because of its resistance to time and daily wear and tear, wood is a good choice for furniture that ages well.”
Because of its durability and aesthetics, experts agree that natural wood will be one of the biggest kitchen cabinet trends this year and next, providing a cozy feel heading into winter.
“There is currently a trend towards more natural materials and earth-related tones in interiors,” says designer Greg Roth.
“This is partly a response to the waning appeal of the whites, off-whites and grays that have recently become prevalent – but it is also clear evidence of the growing socio-cultural shift towards the biophilic design ideal, which emphasizes connections to the natural world.”
Artem echoes this sentiment and points to the move toward greener choices: “The trend toward greener and greener home designs seems to indicate that custom wood cabinetry continues to be on the rise.” He emphasizes that sustainable living at home “doesn’t achieve anything”.
Greg emphasizes the deeper connection that drives this: “As the intricately intertwined relationship between humanity and nature becomes more apparent to us, the greater our urge to strengthen our bond with Mother Earth – to take responsibility for her care and stewardship.”
He notes that this connection occurs in many ways in our homes: “Living greenery; flora and fauna motifs on fabrics and wall coverings; windows, doors and skylights that optimize physical and visual access to the outdoors; and natural, eco-friendly and earth-inspired materials.” Natural wood cabinets are just the beginning of this movement.
