You probably know LG for its TVs and home appliances, but did you know that the South Korean electronics giant also makes a whole range of gardening products in its home market, including planters and seed kits? At CES 2025 in January, LG will unveil its smart additions to the lineup for growing flowers and herbs indoors—no green thumb required.
First and foremost is a floor lamp that doubles as a garden tool. It combines a lamp pole-mounted garden base for up to 20 plants, a 1.5-gallon (5.6-liter) container to automatically water those plants, and a height-adjustable lamp that provides downward-directed light for optimal plant growth. Well, an upward-directed mood light.
According to LG, the system can take care of your plants largely independently, providing water and light as needed, even if you are away from home for up to a week. You can also use a mobile app to keep an eye on your new plants and also adjust the lighting settings.
This is pretty neat considering the entire device is put together to look like another floor lamp with a simple plant holder.

If you don't feel like adding a pedestal to your living space, LG also packs the same technology into a compact “side table” style design. Both systems are designed to make it easy for people in small apartments to start growing plants indoors without sacrificing valuable floor space.
The company has been selling smart planters and temperature-controlled gardening tools, as well as plant nutrients and seed kits for growing flowers, romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, perilla leaves and green onions.

However, these products appear to have never been available in the United States. So we'll have to wait for next month's CES to see if LG plans to foray into indoor gardening in the US with these new smart lights – and to find out what it will cost to finally keep a plant longer than two days to keep life.
