ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) –
There is tension in the air in Centennial Park today.
In collaboration with the Midland Downtown Park Conservancy, this festive celebration will light up the night with the highly anticipated tree lighting ceremony.
Today's Christmas tree lighting begins at 6:25 p.m.
But before the ceremony, the Market at Midland's Merry Lights will feature food trucks, live performances and more.
This year, Midland officials wanted to add things for people of all ages.
The new company that helped put up the lights and decorations is also working with Disney.
John Norman, District 2 councilor for Midland, said: “We wanted to go big; You know, just have a vibrant downtown and do something that benefits everyone.”
Preparing for the tree lighting ceremony requires time and effort on all sides. Councilman Norman says it's almost like getting ready for game day.
“All the preparation and all the people working hard behind the scenes day and night, you know, I saw some people putting lights in the trees and stuff, so it's a bit dangerous too, but I think “They got it all done,” and we’re excited to see the fruits of their labor,” Norman said.
The tree lighting along with the new Christmas market is just another way for Midland to bring the community together.
He said: “I think it's just about seeing the lights and the different decor and the different things. You know you can just see the smiling faces of all the kids and families coming out. It is, as I said, a joyous occasion.”
Midland's Merry Lighted Christmas Parade is December 14th at 6:30 p.m., but last registration is December 12th at 6:00 p.m
