Trend and timeless are mutual in the kitchen design. An expert on this area Shannon Cross, a senior designer at Mosby Building Arts in St. Louis-AG, five expert knowledge of how to successfully take the perfect balance between the two when creating the kitchen of your dreams.
While all-white kitchens have been a staple for years, Cross emphasizes that dark cupboards and black and ovid can still create a timeless and stylish space.
In a recently carried out design, which she created, Cross said: “You can still integrate dark surfaces and have a bright space. Simply combine the dark cupboards with lighter environments such as the worktops and a bright return flow.”
The correct lighting is essential when working with dark surfaces. Cross recommends a combination of 17 -strong lights for an inconspicuous, extensive feeling and decorative lighting over key areas such as the island to give the room personality and focal points.
In order for a kitchen to be timeless, it must be durable. This was evident in the recent work with dark cupboards.
“I made sure that my customers know their options,” she says. “I showed them rehearsals of a black closet both in a mat and in a satin gloss so that they could find the right fit for their durability and maintenance needs. In this case we went with the matt shine, which offered a contrast against the highly polished quartz worktops.”
If you hesitate to commit to all dark cupboards, you should only start with your kitchen island. A dark island creates a striking center of gravity and at the same time keeps the balance with lighter circumference cabins. With this approach you can experiment with contrast without overwhelming your space, and if you love it, you can always expand the darker tones later in your kitchen.
