Othello Public Works for a busy 2025

Othello-old long-term projects in Othello completed in 2024 and a whole list of new projects for 2025 are planned.

Robin Adolphsen, director of public work, summarized it.

“There is a lot going on,” she said.

In the summer of 2024, a project was completed that was first considered in 2019, the opening of the new Iron Horse Playground in Lions Park. Most of the project was paid for with grants that the city received from the Washington recreation and nature conservation office, and an capital appropriation from Washington legislation.

Lions Park also got new and expanded basketball courts, with the two old dishes being torn down and four new ones built. New volleyball spaces have also been added, said Adolphsen.

The new playground is handled by a path that was designed, among other things, to walk.

“(The path has) training stations for adults,” she said.

After the officers of the new parking equipment improved the security systems in the park in 2024. Some more work is planned in 2025, with two of the tennis courts in Lions Park being reappeared due to pickleball, she said.

City officials have also carried out some work in the Taggeres Park, which the city bought in 2022. It was managed by a parking district of Parks and was a long -standing volunteer project, but over time the volunteers became older, and the Parks district of Parks was not appropriate. Adolphsen said the city does some work to revitalize it, starting with landscape design.

“We added 110 new trees,” she said.

Picnic accommodations are added both in Lions Park and in the Taggeres Park. They offer shadows in places where there is no lack.

For 2025, the focus shifts to Kiwanis Park, whereby the construction of a splash pad is planned for this spring.

“That should be up to the Memorial Day weekend,” said Adolphsen.

The Splash Pad and a hiking trail in the park cost 1.26 million US dollars, money that the city has received from a scholarship. The bathrooms in the park are also improved.

“(Baumanfachen) totally gutted it and will make ada conformity,” said Adolphsen. “It will feel brand new.”

The Splash pad is a place where you can cool off on a hot summer day. In the spring of 2024, considerable damage was discovered in the pool and the city officials work on options to repair or replace it.

For this purpose, the city officials are looking for a consultant. Suggestions were assessed by the city at the beginning of this month.

“We should have a consultant in February,” said Adolphsen.

City officials do not know that much about repairing or building a new pool, she said, and wants someone to evaluate it with experiences with swimming pools and recommend the best way to continue. That could be repairs or it could be rebuilt or expanded, she said – city officials do not yet know.

“We hope to have an answer by the end of summer,” she said.

Othello will build a new shelter in 2025. In 2024, the city ended its contract with Adams County Pet Rescue, signed a contract with the hands -n -paw organization and built up temporary accommodation. City officials intend to replace the temporary facility with something permanent.

“We have budgeted $ 340,000 (for the shelter). We will see how far it will bring us, ”said Adolphsen.

Road work – Crack Sealing and Chip Sealing – is planned in the city, and the decorative lighting project along the Main Street is extended by p. 10th Avenue according to S. Second Avenue. 20th century. Other lights are also installed.

Othello's growth has triggered the need to investigate the expansion of the city's sewage treatment system, with the first planning in 2025. In addition to the expansion, the Department of Ecology in Washington obliges to change the city, as the treated water discharges.

“We want our facility in which we will build to manage the waste water for the next 50 years,” said Adolphsen.

City officials will also update the city's sewer systems and water systems. Both are obliged to keep the city in accordance with the requirements of ecology.
