Peab was commissioned to build LKAB's new office building in Kiruna. The customer is LKAB and the contract value is SEK 459 million.
The office building will be 11,550 m2 and have five floors. It is designed for 400 employees, has a garage with 60 parking spaces and an air raid shelter with space for 420 employees.
“It is fantastic that we are continuing to expand Kiruna city center with our local organization, this time with a new and aesthetically pleasing office building for LKAB,” says Susanne Hallberg, Region Manager Peab.
The DNA of LKAB Mine is imprinted in the design of the new offices through details such as the manufacture of steel columns, railings and fittings to create a connection to the company. Hanging walls and projecting floors reflecting a mine inspired the building's interior design. The open landscape offers a variety of views into the activity-oriented office building. The selection of natural materials ensures a warm interior.
“The building will be a landmark of Kiruna, just like our current office building, and a significant addition to Kiruna town center. Using materials that we contribute to the production ourselves and reflecting our mine in the design of the building is a beautiful thing that connects it with our history,” says Magnus Backe, Kiruna Area Manager at LKAB.
The project is a turnkey contract. Work will begin in early 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2028.
The project will be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2024.
