SARAH. YES, THIS TIME OF YEAR IS FULL OF LIGHTS AND DECORATIONS, AND NO MATTER HOW FESTIVE THEY ARE, THE POLICE SAY ALL THE DECORATIONS ARE NOT INTENDED FOR THEIR CARS. Decorate the halls, but not your rides. Ultimately, all of our vehicles are crash rated and crash tested in their design, right? And every time we change the exterior, that adds another part to the mix that could ultimately fall off, that could cause damage, that could distract you as the driver of that vehicle or the other drivers around you. THIS GROWTH TREND IS ILLEGAL. Police say the festive bright lights are intended for your home, not your vehicle. ANY AFTERMARKET LIGHTING, WHETHER DECORATIVE FOR THE HOLIDAY OR EVEN THE REALLY BRIGHT LIGHTS, THEY ARE ALL ILLEGAL. UNFORTUNATELY. York County Regional Police also warned motorists, telling them the decorations were dangerous. OFTEN YOU TAKE A LITTLE LOOK IN YOUR REARVIEW MIRROR, AND IF YOU SEE SOMETHING THAT MIGHT BE NOTICEABLE, YOU CAN THINK THAT THERE IS AN EMERGENCY OR SOMETHING SIMILAR. So we just encourage people not to use decorative lighting. Well, that's a state law. So technically you could get reimbursed for having these decorative lights on your car. HOWEVER, LANCASTER CITY POLICE HAVE TOLD ME THEY HAVE NOT HAD TO ISSUE ANY OUT THIS YEAR
