In fact, the calm color palette is a constant in the home, where textiles, arts and crafts take center stage. Equestrian motifs such as a pair of horse-shaped bookends pay homage to Naveen's love of horses and his years of experience playing polo. Antique brass artifacts, ceramics, and urns adorn consoles and corners throughout the home, and books of all shapes and sizes are stylized and stored throughout the home, in keeping with the residents' voracious reading habits. Textiles are also ubiquitous from the living room to the bedroom, be it handcrafted carpets, ikats from the Delhi Crafts Council or selections from homegrown brands such as Good Earth and Sarita Handa.
A different mood is created in the dining room, where Bhatia aimed to create a feeling of nature in a limited space. “We used 30 pieces of botanical art from Shallu's personal collection, and I also included a chandelier that I loved for its organic shape.”
Bhatia has also stocked the home with handpicked items from Good Earth, with the artisanal luxury brand's signature 'look' emerging as a strong inspiration in initial discussions. The label's home textiles set striking accents between the subtle plain and striped patterns that dominate the bedrooms. To create an “oasis of balance and calm,” the bedrooms feature soft lighting, custom-made furniture, and artifacts and lamps from design stores such as Vayu.
