Stockholm celebrates 40 years and debut in the largest collection with 96 covered pieces that reflect a signature-mark of high-quality materials and Scandinavian design, from statement sofas and hand-woven to glowing and oral glass vases.
The Stockholm collection has developed through eight different editions, each of which is unique, but shares the same defining feature: modern Scandinavian design of the highest quality that is offered at an affordable price.
In its latest and largest iteration, the collection offers a variety of furniture, textiles, lighting and accessories throughout the house. The focus is on the materials – carefully selected for their quality and aging and interact with each other. Combine massive forests with tactile surfaces and natural fibers, linen and leather to create unique expressions in stable wooden furniture, hand-woven wool carpets, oral glass and handmade rattan parts. The collection also includes two glass crown candles with a retro feeling, accompanied by white gloves that can wear during the assembly.
“The purpose of the Stockholm collections was always to prove that high quality does not have to have intimidating costs,” says Karin Gustavsson, creative director of Stockholm. “We have worked on creating a non -uncompromising collection in which each piece tells a story. Craftsmanship is the heart of this project, in which traditional techniques and practical methods have led to durable and beautiful design pieces that pass the test of the time.”
Three Swedish designers with different but complementary form languages together create a collection that is coherent and at the same time ensures unique pieces that shine alone. True to his namesake, inspiration in the city of Stockholm is deeply rooted and reflects both the urban and the natural landscape around the city. Rich earth tones play against natural forests, and textiles reflect scenes and colors from nature.
A look at Stockholm 2025
Two clearly different sofas were first designed as center pieces to guide the collection as a whole. Designer Ola Wihlborg's wide modular sofa, which was offered in four colors, including a deep turquoise color, was born from his frustration with sofas that constantly fluff. He says: “I wanted to create a high quality sofa that maintains its shape and also looks in it after getting up. Something that prioritizes the comfort without needing additional pillows.” After she has developed over 30 prototypes to find the perfect form for daily comfort, the result is an elegant, spacious sofa with modules that can be used for yourself to create the desired length.
The second sofa, designed by Nike Karlsson with a firm pine wood frame and white pillows, serves as an exploration in the design without foam. The sofa made of natural materials uses woven fabric, natural latex and coconut fiber, with a sofa with exceptional comfort and timeless attractiveness.
Rattan was a focus of Stockholm 2017, and Nike's legendary Rattan cabinet became a coveted favorite. In the new collection, Nike presents a cabinet of the sliding door with a surface woven, bent, bent and shaped by rattan fibers. Rattan is also used in the backrest of one of the dining room chairs, while the lounge chair is built around a robust rattan frame and crowned with a deep pillow in a light boulé.
“You would think that the name Stockholm would have a great feeling of the city, but we went outside the urban environment, nature and the islands.
The raw type of materials seems in the entire collection, where chairs, bookshelves and essential detailed craftsmanship and intelligent constructions show – and slim, clean designs that remain strong and durable. The Bentwood chairs are made with a traditional technology in which the beech wood is soaked and carefully bent by hand to form soft, rounded arches in the arms and back.
The forest is a central character in the designs of textile designer Paulin Machado, including lampshades that are adorned in leaf and mushroom deductions and color combinations that are drawn directly from the Scandinavian seasons. The collection of 100% wool carpets, which is interwoven by Master -Weavers, brings nature with woven birch patterns, which are available in green shades and in black and white shadows. Merino wool ceiling and pillowcases in multicolored patterns add pops drama. As Paulin puts it: “Nature is the best designer – every color fits beautiful in the natural world and you can see how we tried to grasp the colors of the seasonal changes in Sweden.”
For the meal, the collection offers a table dishes in ceramic and porcelain, including glazed stone slabs and bowls as well as a series of glasses. A selection of large vases stands up as beautiful center pieces with two oral-blown and a ceramic black amorphous, so that everyone has their own character.
Stockholm 2025 will be available worldwide and online in Ikea shops from April 10, 2025.
