“My furniture is a mixture of modern and traditional, and my decor is totally versatile and comes from everywhere. My parents were great travelers, and my house in childhood was always full of treasures and art that they would bring back from Africa and Europe,” explains Charlotte. Charlotte says that the kitchen had the same look as the rest of the place before use. “It had a serial killer atmosphere – white walls, florescent lights, gray laminate flooring, gray worktops, white devices and lame devices/limited hardware.”

“I have peel and stick in the kitchen and regret it!” Charlotte admits about a dirty secret in her house. “It was a chaos to apply super hard and difficult to clean. If I could rewind, I would only have skipped it for a custom carpet.” Credit: Alex Scott Credit: Alex Scott

I definitely broke every tenant rule, “Charlotte admits that her rules are breaking for the rule.” So many people say “don't paint dark colors” or “don't paint the cupboards”-I did it anyway. No regret! “Credit: Alex Scott Credit: Alex Scott

“When the pandemic hit was, I realized that I needed more space when I wanted to work from home,” begins Charlotte Hohorst, VP of design in the communication company JBC PR. “If you have ever hunted on the west side of Los Angeles, you know that the selection is pretty slim unless you have a huge budget. I saw a dozen apartments felt that the boxes simply didn't check for space, good light and charm.”

Charlotte's proudest DIY is the background image. “My kitchen cheek that I did with a friend and it took half a day. My office that I did alone, and it took almost a whole day. I broke music, forgot the perfectionism and just decided to do it!”

But when Charlotte went to this two -story town house with two bedrooms in Los Angeles' Brentwood for the first time, she only had one thought: “Now we're talking!” Charlotte describes the rent as a “dreamy layout, walk -in neighborhood and astonishing light from large windows. It was old and quite outdated – but I had an empty canvas and a lot of time at home in my hands.”

Cozy living room with marine walls, two old yellow armchairs, a glass of a glass table and a staircase.
Charlotte is not 100% sure what is the oldest in her house, but she says that the “yellow velvet chairs in the living room” belonged to my great -grandparents. I never met her, but I love that you imagine that you buy these chairs and sit together and sit in them together. I love to think about having inherited my love for furniture from you. “Credit: Alex Scott Credit: Alex Scott

Charlotte has been in the room for five years and says that in the first few years it was only a question of how they from a serial-killer-like canvas to what I called as a colorful, euphoric uprising, from a serial-killer-poor screen to what I described as colorful, euphoric turmoil. Dragon wallpaper? 'And every time they answered, “hell yes”. “

A woman with a long dark hair smiles while sitting on a couch and wearing a white dress against a red flowers.

While Charlotte tried to make many tenant -friendly changes, “she decided that I did not decide that I would not get the deposit back and let go with ruthless dedication. The real challenge for me was the budget!” It admits. “If I had an unlimited budget, I would have been much crazier. I think I would have covered every centimeter of every wall with art and replaced the refrigerator and the stove. Instead, I really banned the Facebook marketplace; I didn't buy the sale, the estate, the second -hand shop.
