The future Cowichan Hospital will set the province of health standards for the future

The new facility of the Cowichan District Hospital was recognized as the first fossil fuel building in BC and Canada's first building so as not to reach Carbon Building Design.

While the new facility will be able to accept more spaces for patients, the region and the province should be proud to set up the benchmark for the future.

“The future CDH sets the benchmark for the health infrastructure by optimizing energy consumption and securing the future for better performance through extreme weather and climate medicine events,” she said.

The infrastructure of the new hospital will offer fully electrical operation, a high energy -efficient design, better air quality, water conversion strategies, sustainable materials and LED lighting.

The Minister of Infrastructure Bowinn Ma says that the province together with Iceland Health is looking forward to building more facilities to accommodate communities for the future.

“This certification shows that we can create hospitals through innovative design who support the well -being of families and a sustainable future,” says Ma.

The parliamentary secretary of the rural health school toporowski says it is time for people to receive health care they need and at the same time tackle climate protection problems.

“The health of our environment is an important part of our general health,” she says. “That's why I am so happy that the future Cowichan District Hospital offers the needs of the health service and at the same time minimizes the effects on land, water and air around us.”

The construction of the new hospital is expected to be carried out next year and opened for patients 2027.
