At the last Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 (Juc) in Madrid the lighting design of Raphaël Demonthy ((Sunrise Studios GmbH) was based on finely coordinated technology of GLPWhich has enormous effects under demanding conditions. In the Caja Mágica, a well-known tennis arena in Madrid with a capacity of 12,000 seats, more than 250 GLP lights ensured that the services of the 17 participating countries could be staged in a unique way. With the right balance between creative versatility and technical precision, the various devices are in the X5 series supported the visual implementation of the show, which delighted millions of spectators worldwide.

Raphaël Demonthy had to integrate into a 20-meter-high LED wall and integrate a gigantic flower decoration-the so-called “Hanging Garden”-which stretched from the stage to the audience. The size of the hall and the height of the lighting device that reached up to 22 meters required innovative and powerful solutions.
“It is not every day that you have to deal with a light riga over 20 meters”, “ says demontically. “The impression X5 was very impressive under these conditions. Despite the enormous distance, it was completely visible even in a narrow zoom. Sometimes we even had to run darker because the strength for the cameras was too strong.”
In particular, the enormous heights of the backlight, which lasted up to 21 meters, presented the demonstrated task: ”With these distances you have to plan exactly to avoid unwanted shadows – especially with white light. The show light was also so crucial that each of the 17 countries was visually presented in a unique way despite the amount. “
Impression X5 precision
The GLP spots played a central role in implementing the stage and lighting design. Above the main stage 51 Impression X5S were arranged as powerful Waatlicht in three lines to create both flat light and narrow beam. To the side of the stands 64 Impression X5 CompactS offered a visual extension of the stage to the audience. Your compact design and yet you would have made you an ideal choice here.
Forty -eight Impression x4 and 38 Impression X4 L were used for the backlight of the audience, which thanks to its versatility ensured uniform lighting. A special highlight was the 48 impression X5 bar 1000which – installed in several horizontal lines – illuminated the huge flower decoration. Demonthy emphasizes the precision of the X5 color mixing: “We had to work especially with pastel colors to get the right green in the camera, which was very precise with the X5 bars. “
The setup was supplemented by eight Fusion stick FS16 Zwhich has added decorative accents to the so-called Scrueers desk, which was used to combine Martin Österdahl.
The lighting technology for the Junior ESC was delivered by PRG Spain. The Spanish broadcaster RTVE was responsible for production in cooperation with the company Sold out.
Demonthy, who works internationally, closes from television productions to industrial and live events: ”We do not see our job as a work, but as an opportunity to live out our creativity – with heart and soul. Devices that can be used creatively and exactly, such as the GLP's X5 series, help. “
