Drew Michael Scott's House Rules
A long-time apartment resident, Scott is new to home ownership – and hosting. His warm personal style permeates every part of his new Los Angeles home, a place where cozy fabrics, the glow of candlelight and the smell of pumpkin pie make guests feel at home.
Q: What is the one thing that makes your house feel like home?
All my vintage treasures and finds. My house is full of unique vintage items and furniture pieces that I have collected since moving in.
Q: What does a guest have to do to be invited back?
Be obsessed with Winston! I have an 8 month old English Bulldog named Winston and if you are as obsessed with him as I am, you will definitely be invited back.
Q: What does your hosting absolutely have to do?
Light a candle and take out the trash. If someone is staying over, I make sure there are clean towels and a phone charger in the guest room.
Q: What organizational rules of thumb keep your life running smoothly?
I use my calendar to keep track of due dates and deadlines, but when it comes to organizing my physical items, I always take the time to keep things in the same place, especially my tools. I love my label maker and always make sure my drawers are properly labeled for tools and supplies. But I admit it can feel like organized chaos at times.
Q: How do you create the mood in your home, either for yourself or for guests?
I love a wonderfully scented candle, especially in fall and winter. My favorite at the moment is the Half Baked Pumpkin Smash Candle from Snif! In winter I also love the Old Saint Wick Candle from Snif. There's nothing better than lighting a candle and watching TV at the end of the day. It's my favorite way to unwind and create a cozy atmosphere in my home.
Q: How do you relax at home after a long day?
I love taking a bath. It has always been my favorite way to relax and set the tone for a cozy evening. I usually watch YouTube videos or scroll on TikTok.

Drew Michael Scott's design inspiration
Scott takes care of his home, sources pieces for his online shop, and creates fresh DIY and decor content for his channel. He dedicates every free hour to design. Here's what inspires his personal style and what he does when he needs a creative reset.
Q: How would you describe your style?
It's really adaptable, but I feel like my design style is a strong mix of masculine and feminine. I wouldn't say I stick to a particular style. Since my home is a Spanish style house, this architecture influences my design here. But if I made a picture book home, you wouldn't see the same colors in me.
Q: Do you prefer colors or neutrals at home?
Lately I've been leaning more toward neutral tones and mixing woods, metals, etc.
Q: Do you still enjoy decorating your personal spaces since it is a job for you? What do you do when you need a break?
Yes! I really love designing my personal spaces because I can do whatever I want. It's nice to have the flexibility to change creative direction when I'm not feeling it. I haven't felt creatively drained yet and the inspiration just keeps coming.
If I ever need a break from designing, I focus on my online store and look for new vintage items and furniture. It's a true passion and something I enjoy doing so I never get bored or bored.
Q: Whose design style do you admire most?
Pierce and Ward and Tiffany Howell of Night Palm. I admire her work and her eye so much.
Q: Where do you find design inspiration?
I find a lot of inspiration from old design books. There's a store in downtown LA that has tons of old design books. So for my home, I look at a book full of photos of 1920s Spanish design to get ideas for different silhouettes and styles from that era. All of these photos are nowhere else than in this book – they are not online. On Instagram and Pinterest you start to pay attention to what's trending or what other people are doing.
