Savannah, GA. (WTOC/Gray News) – A US soldier who was killed in action during the Korean War returned home on Wednesday after 75 years.

The Sergeant Luther Grace died in 1950, but its mortal mortals were only identified last December.

On Wednesday there was a privacy and transmission of his body on Savannah Hilton Head Airport on Wednesday.

Grace served in the Second World War and in the Korean War.

“He was 24 years old when he went into service and was 34 years old when he was killed in action,” said his nephew Kelly Grace. “We received the news in 2024 that 45 percent of him were identified positively by him, and we are here to bring him home.”

Kelly Grace and several other family members, together with Georgia State Patrol and other veterans, welcomed Luther Grace's arrival.

Then they led a procession to a chapel near Jeff Davis County.

The niece of Luther Grace, Saralyn Stapleton, said she was doing what her father, Kelly Grace's brother, has no chance.

“He always wondered what happened. He always hoped that one day he would come home. We are grateful that he is now at home,” said Stapleton.

According to Stapleton, Luther Grace finally brings her family together and gives them a version of the closure.

Luther Grace will be relaxed next to his mother on May 3 in his hometown Lumber City, Georgia.
