Tiny Homes have become a popular housing option since Covid 19 pandemic because more Americans began to either have a first home or as their age care. Many people not only save money, but have turned to tiny houses to simplify their lives and use a minimalist lifestyle. However, you can only do so much if you styled a small home, and the limited space also means sacrificing certain elements for non -negotiable features such as the stairs. However, Joanna Gaines, who previously shared a clever solution for maximizing a combined kitchen and a dining room, asks to differ. For them it is possible to have a fully functional ladder in a tiny home without affecting space.
In the third season “Fixer Upper”, Gaines and her husband Chip faced the challenging task of designing a family house that was only about 720 square meters in size. The homeowners had left the shotgun house and affected by grandstands, and there was very little space with which one could work and develop usable areas. This urged Gaines to expand the roof and the ceiling and add a loft. In order to save Prime Real Estate on the ground floor and still have easy access to the loft, Gaines installed a ship ladder staircase that can be raised and hanging via a strap disc system if it is not used. “Not only does it add a practical element, but also had the feeling with the high ceilings that it was a really cool design function,” Gaines wrote in a Magnolia blog contribution.
How to restore the retractable ladder of the shotgun house
The retractable director Joanna Gaines, which is used for the Shotgun House project, is easy to replicate in every tiny house with an attic and a sufficient ceiling height to record a hanging ladder. In contrast to conventional staircasters that are permanently defined and taking up too much space, a ship's ladder who is usually used in the marine industry is ideal for tiny houses due to their narrow width, steep slope and robust structure. The ship ladder is usually anchored at both ends when used in ships to ensure security. In Gaines' project, however, she decided to only attach the upper end of the ladder to the attic and to connect the lower end to a strap disc system that can increase or lower the structure like a tract bridge.
To reproduce this in your tiny house, you need a custom -made ship ladder that corresponds to the height of your loft. Next you need a strong anchor point, either in the ceiling joint or in the wall stick, to support the mechanism of the strap disk when lifting the ladder. As soon as both are installed, attach the side of the ladder with streets such as eye screws or carabiners to the ladder on the rope, the chain or the belt of the strap disc kit. In order to keep the ladder hung up when not hung up, install a clamp mounted on the wall or a hook on the adjacent wall, where the rope can be safely bound. For a more smooth operation and to minimize the wear, apply a small amount of fat to the bearing of the strap. Remember that this is an advanced project to improve the house, so professional help is recommended.
Similar ladder options for your little home, which you should consider
If you have the feeling that the retractable ship ladder with a belt disc system is too much or too complex for your little home or if you do not feel comfortable how it can be a physical danger in suspension, you can do without other stylish and practical alternatives. Two options to be taken into account are fixed wall leaders and Rolling Library. Both are compact in design and visually appealing. However, they are generally not cheap to build and wait. You must therefore anticipate the expenditure that you will find if you want to keep the cost of living in a tiny house low.
As the name suggests, a fixed wallist is a fixed ladder that mounted flat against the wall. This only takes up very little space and can even be adjusted so that you correspond to your internal style with wood, metal or acrylic materials. It is a good choice for minimalist houses in which every centimeter of space counts. However, since it does not move, you should make sure that it does not affect other furniture or ways if you are installed. In the meantime, the Rolling Library conductor, which offers a stylish way to achieve high shelves, is also a good alternative. It glides along a horizontal rail that is mounted above the loft input and can be rolled aside when not using. Just remember that this needs a little more horizontal wall to absorb its movement and parking position.
