West Sioux School Board accepts new lighting offers | Hairs Independent/Ireton Examiner

Hairs –During the West Sioux School District Board of Education Board of Education On Monday, a revised quote for soccer field lighting was discussed and approved.

“When they continue to discuss this with other schools, they proposed to go with the 50-foot candles instead of the 30 feet,” said Steve Grond, superintendent of West Sioux. “It will lighten the field and the track. I believe that it will be better lighting and we will be happier to make this change.”

The members of the board meeting voted to get new lights on the Eneboe field after they had no other choice to approve the purchase of $ 246,406.00 during a special meeting on Thursday, May 29, after they had lost a light mast in a wind storm 10 days earlier.

“The pole cut a small hole in the lawn that we could repair within a few days, and the caretaker employee did a great job to get the pole from the field and clean up the broken glass and other debris,” said Ben Bouza, sports director of West Sioux.

The board unanimously approved the purchase for new football field lights, which are bought from Musco Sports Lighting. However, the original approval was for poles, which were 30 feet high, and it was proposed to go with 50 feet high sticks to get the best lighting.

“We turned to Musco and they gave us a verbal price of $ 278,809,” said Grond. “There will be an increase in the price of $ 246,406 to $ 286,868, an increase of $ 40,462.”

The offer still includes several operating and guarantee services such as reducing energy and maintenance costs by 40 to 85 percent compared to typical 1500 watt metal halogenic devices, product protection and guarantee that cover the materials and cover workers on site to eliminate the maintenance costs of the district for 25 years. The agreement includes support from the Musco lighting team.

“Everything is going wrong, including a light that ends. You will replace the light and/or repair what needs to be repaired,” said Grond.

The estimated delivery time of the materials on the construction site from the time of the order is 8-10 weeks. The bid approved by the board contains neither the removal of the current lights nor the installation of the new lights.

During the session on Monday, the board members also approved a quote from Kevin O'Dell Electric in South Sioux City, NE, for the removal and installation of football stadium lighting. The district received two quotes with Kevin O'Dell Electric with $ 125,000. The board voted to accept and approve this bid.

The work on the football stadium lighting will soon begin, according to Grond, as the football season begins.
