Google's smart home efforts were only in a sad state in May.
Google has advertised Gemini Ai Assistant in the entire keynote of his annual I/O developer conference and demonstrated how it would penetrate all aspects of the search giants' products -everything from telephones and AR glasses to watches and television.
But Google Home was not mentioned at all, while Google's Nest Smart Speakers, Displays and Cameras were as well ignored. (Google later had some scattered Smart -Home announcements in the conference).
Google other nest products was just as worrying and even withdrawn from some Smart Home categories from the perspective of the production facility.
In fact, things became so bad that Anish Kattukhan, the director of Google Home and Nest's product management, was forced to comment on social media and apologize for the blotchy performance of Google Assistant and promised that his team “actively worked on important improvements”.
Now, about a month after Kattukaram's comments, the focus is on these “important improvements”.
First came further details about the “new experience of Gemini” that Google had previously promised for its intelligent speakers, including the existing nest mini and nest audio.
Gemini for Home is an early access preview in October and offers a more intelligent voice assistant who better understands our natural inquiries, reacts to more complex smart home commands, offers calendars and shopping lists and participates in “natural back and forth discussion” via Gemini.
Of course, Google still has a lot to prove when it comes to Gemini in the smart home. Early tests of a Gemini assistant on existing Google Smart Speakers have received a lukewarm reception (it is not clear whether “Gemini for Home” is an iteration of these efforts or a brand new product), and Google also said that there will be both free and paid versions of the new assistant. Which Gemini for home features will be behind a paywall? Unknown, for now.
Nevertheless, Gemini certainly sounds promising for home and we have also received a look at a new Google Smart speaker that houses it. The small, spherical and somewhat squeezed loudspeaker had a light ring in a promo video during the big Pixel event from Google last week, with early leaks pointing out that it was the Google TV streamer and the double hub.
And although it has not been confirmed, there should also be a new series of nest monitoring cameras in the barrel, including (according to the leaks) of a wired outdoor camera, an inner camera and a new nest doorbell, all of which with 2K video resolution (from 1080p-videos on Google's current generation nest cams).
Google's smart home updates were for a long time. It has been about four years since we saw a new nest camera and almost five years since the last new Nest.
When will these updated intelligent products finally be officially announced? Google did not say with certainty, but in recent years it has unpacked its latest smart home goods during an autumn hardware event -think of somewhere between the end of September and early October.
So it seems that Google Home will increasingly have a large revival in a few weeks, which with the arrival of not only Gemini for at home, but also a new smart speaker, two new nest cameras. And A new nest video doorbell, if not. The new list should bring the fears to rest that Google could simply go away from the intelligent home.
But after the unveiling, the difficult part is: Gemini to make an component of the Google Home ecosystem, not only from back and forth, but also the basics of how to switch on the right intelligent light.
