It was 50 years since the KIPS Bay Decorator Show House was founded for the first time to finance the post-school and enrichment programs of the KIPS Bay Boys & Girls Club. What started as a philanthropic design takeover has been one of the most influential events in the interior – starting in New York and then in recent times in Dallas.
Now, half a century later, the tradition of the exhibition house is returning to the original cobblestone stamping: a six-story town house Greenwich Village with the right bone-13-foot ceilings, seven wood chimneys, eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a private garden and even an original Otis elevator. The address, now in today's address 20 West 12th Street, is still buzzing with the charm of the Bohemian, artist -based past of the quarter.
